For instance, when trying to change a water pump and it neglects to tell you you need to undo some hidden bolts at the front of the front of the engine.

Actually, it's pretty good just not enough pics, or they're in the wrong place

The best one I had was when changing the heater matrix on a mk2 Espace. The manual said "unbolt the cover on the passenger side of the vehicle, remove the 4 bolts holding the matrix in and it will drop out".

In reality that was for the LHD version. On the RHD version I practically had to remove the whole dashboard to get to the bloody thing as the steering column was in the way.

haynes is waz mate! only thing i use it for is referencing torque settings for bolts n capacities! for that actual takin apart n rebuilding i use instinct n common sense!! 8)

i found the 'HOW TO MODIFY A CLIO' max power one more informative than the haynes
