Okay first of all massive thanks to Gibbo for all his telephone support, without which i would of been fcuked!!!

Got my head back off ltr today anyway, so cheers winston and gib (again) for sortin that for me n all. heres a list of all the stuff done to the head while it was 'on holiday'

Half day of work to fetch it from bury and on with the show!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/P1160079.jpg

Anyway, refitted the bits missing off the head and the pulleys n that and decided to stick the exhaust manifold back on first n all to save my hands later!! :D this made the whole lot a tad heavy to say the least, but no worries am strong................

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/P1160081.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/P1160085.jpg

cleaned up all the gasket faces and wiped them down with a clean rag

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/P1160080.jpg

and popped on the gasket itself!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/P1160084.jpg

then slapped the head back on!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/P1160086.jpg

did up all the head bolts as instructed on the packet and that was that.....onto timing belt! man it was a struggle but eventually just fell on, weird! lined all the marks up perfect and tensioned it. turned the engine over a couple of times to listen for any noises.....none thankfully! and then set the engine back to TDC. laffin! not bad for me first attempt and got more done than expected for workin on me jack jones!!

you lot always do it the hard way!

Fit the injectors and manifold to the heads before lifting it on, much easier.

jay s - am suprised actually how well it SEEMS to be going!

chris H - i aint got a rig to lift the head, it was hard enuf with one manifold man handling it on carefully!

coops you lady, pick it up then place it on, i do it all the time.

Gates belts are the same no matter where you buy them.

Gates and contitech are oe ren depending on year/what was in the parts bin at the line.

BRUN

so Chris, when i need a cambelt doing, would i save money by buying the Gates kit, or will the pulleys be different than the OE Renault ones

id only want to fit the best quality, something like a cambelt isnt worth saving a few quid on unless its of equal quality to the OE one

gates kit will have the right gear in it anyway brun.

GSF sells the kit at trade for 65ish quid in a renault box. Normally gates powergrip but I have seen a few in the ren boxes being conti.

Coops you fairy :P Worst bit is you have the head in youir hands with everything on it, the engine seems like a long way away as you need to position it down.
