If you search under a post called 4 pots the bore size of master cylinder is quoted on that

Can heck Haynes manual for disk width. Neeed to get from car.

And have you sorted out brackets?

Found post.

Bore size apparently: Posted: Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:23 pm Post subject:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it's about 32mm size of piston measuring with ruler so i'd say the 31.8mm ones

Jamie.
12-01-2006, 21:43
And have you sorted out brackets?

yer im sorting it out at the mo

reckon with those wilwoods it'll be about 400 made up (prudent est, could come in at 350)

Not sure why though but it does seem that midilite is only one available for the Bore size used (31.8mm)

£288.50 including pads so got to include brackets and hoses. Then cost of getting brackets made to fit car and caliper.

ill just give em a ring and ask for the caliper that fits a 259mm disc and 21mm thick. also richy is checking his for any finer details.... but i dont think there will be a problem of getting the dynolight callipers....

matty
12-01-2006, 22:15
But that is only half the story. Caliper is based on the master cylinder and this disc size so you can get them to fit the disc but guessing they may not work as well if you get caliper designed for larger master cylinder using a smaller master cylinder.....

I am sure someone will put me right if I am wrong.

im going to measure mine to see what bore size is and the discs thickness spacing so he can try get correct set

Jamie.

they must have a reference chart for cars at h.o though, otherwise they would never sell anything

Emailed raldes yonks ago and they were not that helpful. Its more on universal fit rather than kit for a particular car. As is Wilwoods website, Renault not even listed.

So if previous info provided of approx 32mm for master cylinder bore size is correct, you need to be looking for calipers that match a bore size of 31.8mm. Guess if you get a caliper for a higher bore size there is less braking force being applied to caliper so requires a bit more effort to stop, if I am correct in matching master cyclinder size to force provided to stop as bigger size offering greater force.

Haynes quote disk width as 20mm

someone somewhere must have their wilwood 4pot box knocking around with the model no on it?

matty
12-01-2006, 22:50
From Wilwood's site: Combined piston area, not caliper size, is the primary influence on a caliper's clamping power. The piston volume must match the master cylinder bore size and pedal leverage to realize peak performance from the system.

And from post by Bayliss who I believed measure it at 32mm.

So chances of someone having a box with model number on it, slim. And whether calipers are available by Raldes, even slimmer seeing as not listed for 32mm bore size.

Does bore size matter? Who knows...

Off on both disk widthy and master cylinder size with those calipers:

1.38 35.1mm 1.00 25.4mm 120-6805

Think I will stick to the Midilite which are nearer the correct size.

are u going off what bayliss said, ie bore 31.8mm as thats bore of his caliper pistons which are different to ours anyway, doesnt mean they match up right

i want whats tried and tested.

Yeah thought he was talking about master cylinder bore size as that is the only unknown requirement for getting the calipers.

Anyone know what it is then or is everyone happy to get calipers without knowing that size?

i dont actually know the size, but we know mark r got the kit for his rally clio and we all have the same kit as what he got, mine work fine so im happy lol :)

So how do you find out master cylinder bore size. Doubt Renault Parts will know if I go down there and ask them......

Maybe get one from a scrappy to find out.

I've got on in the garage.
ANy idea how to strip it down.

I've got some old pads which I'll measure next time I'm at the garage to see what size piston they use.
