im off snowboarding south of france at the end of this month, first time, never been before, and i need to get all the gear... i've seen spyder jackets etc in certain shops for 600quid!!! can this be right? Are these like super-duper designer brand or something when it comes to boarding? i've seen um for 100quid or so on ebay.

maybe someone who's into snowboarding or skiing could shed some light for me on whats what ? :)

Try Decathalon mate! i got fully kitted up there for about 100 quid last year.

going again at the end of feb. can't wait 8) :D

wouldn't bother with ebay tbh you'd never know if it it would fit, even if it was a good brand... might aswell just have cheapo stuff that fits

Trio is spot on....if you are driving call into this shop in France, they are in every major Town or City.....Dirt Cheap....If you are flying then you will have to buy in UK (Unless Decthalon is also in the UK?).

£600 for a Ski/Snowboarding top is taking the PISS  £150 would get you Jacket, Salopettes, Gloves, 2 Micro Fleeces, Socks from store above!

Jan is the man to ask on this subject, he's done a few seasons.

It all depends how much abuse you plan to give the gear tbh and how often you'll be using it ... £100 stuff is fine for a week holiday to be fair. You should go the ski done in MK to see of you'll actually get into it or not, which could help you decision making process.

I did a 1/2 season in Whistler back in 2000 and invested heavily in some decent gear which not only lasted the time I was there, but is still in good shape now, so I tend to go with spend a little more now and save later.

have a good time :)

Steer clear of the spyder stuff IMO.... It's for rich Americans - lol

On a budget - go to TK Max mate... Bargain stuff in there

All the major brands like Nike, Helly Hanson, Burton, North Face, etc have budget kit (£100 jacket, £70 pants) which is good quality stuff.

If you're planning to go a few times over the years and you can afford it, I'd spend a bit more than £100 all in... Stuff will last longer and be more comfortable 8)

Enjoy

ps. Here's a picture from the last season I did:

Got a Nike ACG jacket in TK Maxx for £80, should have been £260. Worth having a look in there.

if youve never been, buy cheap, if u like which no doubt u will spend a little more for the next years trip??? its pretty cheap over there at the resorts but i do remember going on a school trip to decathlon once and u wouldnt believe the amounts of sports they cater for!

have fun, gotta love off piste tho, jus lean back

Off to St Anton end of Feb, had a shit load of snow out there so far, so hopefully it will continue.

Did Meribel last year and the powder was fantastic, board is a bit trashed, but dead worth it!

You should give it a go mate, the snow is great in Austria at the moment. Just hire the gear.
