Get the F1 tyres or Conti sports.

I hate me toyos on my car they were cheap (£33 a corner I think or so) but there terriable.

195//50/15 are fine though thats what I use there cheaper than the proper 185/55 and no different grip wise IMO.

I'm not all that impressed with my T1-S's! They are ok, pish in wet though! Seem too soft as well.

I put my OLD phase 2 wheels on which i refurbed in black, with Goodyear Eagle F1's and they are soooooo much better. Same ish in dry, but much better in wet/slippy conditions, and wear much less!

185/55's all the way.

If they were meant to roll on 195's they'd have been sold with them as standard :)

Hmm.. just don't get the Dunlop SP9000 on the Clio (195s). They're just not grippy enough, wet or dry, compared to the rest mentioned. I suspect the tread pattern is more suited to wider profiles tyres. Nearly crashed it few times when I had the tyres on for like 2 months. Swapped back to F1-GSD2 and everything was back to normal.

what standard size/profile tyres came on williams alloys?

I'm debating tyres now, need 4 new un's early next month, stick with 185's then?

I got told 195/50's were a better alternatvie? i've only had 185's and they don't seem too bad - mind you they are the worst tyre i've ever ever had they will not die!

had em for 3 years now - guy I bought the car off had em put on the get it through the mot - the bastard lol.

What make are they?

I'm happy with 195/50 in GSD-3 but love the GSD-2 in 195/55 on the Xsara.

TBH 195/50's are fine. They are the most common tyre size and profile for alloy wheels, so cheaper than 185/55. Wider so slightly better grip off the line, other than that pretty similar. probably tramline slightly more due to increased width, and dont have quite the same play in them as 55's do. If you have a slammed beast you mite find that you have to run the 45 profile...but again they are more expensive!

IMO go for the best you can afford.

Toyo T1-S / T1-R's are good middle ground tyre but you can get much better than them.

IIRC Goodyear Eagle F1's are around about 45quid per corner for 195/50/R15 tyres.

For my Toyo T1-S's i paid £36 per corner.

Like most things in life...you get what you pay for!

Think i'll go for these next time round - Trial and error I suppose, I'll see if I like 195's to be honest they're gonna be infinately better than the turds that are on now!

i have a full set of eagle f1, gsd3 in 195/50/15 on my track wheels and full set of eagle f1, gsd2 in 185/55/15 on my williams rims, the 195 is alittle bit stiffer tyre and wider, u can feel it tramline bit more but im well happy with them, great on track and road, all i use for now, btw 195's cus there cheaper!

Dumb for asking again but whats that cheap website where people get there tyres from?

i find that the 185/5/15 version are more comfy(absorbing) on roads and it doesnt tramline so much which make its nice and easy to drive, but the tyres do flex abit in the sidewalls for cornering, lots of squeel lol

the 195/50/15 i find are better on track, they give me a much better feel esp when cornering, the sidewalls dont flex as much as the 185's, they do tramline abit more but not excessively, still easy to control, light and nimble feel still, but it feels alot more accurate with these, dont know if thats to do with stiffer sidewalls aswell as wider tyres, but i prefer the 195/50/15 over the 185's mainly down to fact on track i dont think the 185's was good enough imo

and yes 195's are alot cheaper!

try www.mytyres.co.uk there usually pretty cheap

so are 3's generally more expensive than 2's? aslong as they're better in the wet than these shitters it'll do for me!

richy
06-01-2006, 23:30
well, it cost me less for the GSD3 as there 195/50/15 and the GSD2 are 185/55/15!! but i guess if same size then yeah proberly, btw in the wet they are fine, it hammered it down at angelsey trackday and i had lots of grip!
