Couldn't see but I think it was a 320. This morning. Me at stopline, him rolling in 2nd (I assume) to the stopline as the lights change. Caught him through 1st and then was level to the top of 2nd before I had to slow for traffic.

Nippy bastards those diesels. :evil:

I have driven both, TBH their performances blew me away! anyone that dismisses out of hand these New generation 'Oil Burners' is liable to get their fingers burnt.....

Yeah, the new diesels are rapid. Me and my mater were in his valver a while back and tried to race a bmw 530d and it blew us away with no problems :shock:

I had a good doo with a 530d round some fast corners/straights only had a small advantage in the old williams...

Kept with a 730d but it was absolutely level with me 2 up. I was impressed at the speed he was carrying round the roundabout as well. :twisted:

I had a go against a 330d in the wet from the lights...he just went away from me! Rear wheel drive and traction control made a massive difference for him I guess. I was left spinning away at the lights like a nob jockey. Tegs really are useless in the wet from the lights.
Hopefully we'll meet up again in the dry :twisted:

Tbh the 320 tds are not that quick, certainly not valver / williams quick (heck, even a 320 petrol only does 0-60 in just over 9 secs). However, the 330 turbo diesel is another matter! Use some at work and they are v rapid up to 100!

...the figures;

330d - 184 bhp @ 4000rpm, 288lb ft torque at 3200 rpm, but only 123 bhp per ton, 0-60 in 7.7 secs. Shouldnt give a valver / williams any probs looking at these figures. Think the torque has a lot to do with it!

A 320d is probably quicker than the 320i in most situations. You can pretty much disregard power to weight ratios when it comes to Diesels.

True, as I say, all down to massive torque! iirc I think most 330d's are autos as standard so those figures are pretty good considering the box and the kerb weight.

Think you will find that the 330D is 204BHP :wink: 0-62 = 7.2 Top speed 150MPH and the Torque is 302/1500RPM..... :shock:

There's two versions of the 330d. Old n new. So you're both right :wink:

Could never get the 330d over 130mph though, it could never get to 150 in a million years!

in gear the 330d is just ridiculously fast.

new gen diesle engines are the bizziness. I have driven the new merc 320 and 320 diesel back to back. diesel wins easy :shock:

i like the concept of a diesel, cheap to run equally as fast n quiet these days etc etc. but theres one thing that puts me off for good. the big plume of smoke everytime the damn things boot it! is it just me or does every fibre in your body fight buying a new car that smokes?! i know its what they do and its normal n blah blah but.......well its shit tbh!!

Agreed, they are quick and with the BMW, very smooth as sounds good as well (as probally is the merc but never driven the CDI)!! However, give me a revver anyday, I hate the feeling of some high powered diesels when you are nailing it and the power dissapears all of a sudden (1.9 TDI Audis in particular bad for that) due to the compact power band!
