View Full Version : Fuel consumption

What's everyone getting (F7R)?

I've done nearly half a tank in 2 days, but only about 80 miles.

I do have a heavy right foot, but this still seems really crap.

I have no fuel leaks, would the lambda affect the fuel consumption (this is the only thing that is original on the car, LOL!!)

Cheers

James

I get about 30mpg depends how I drive I think 33 or so on a long run at a steady speed.

yeah, lambda or blocked airfilter but even things like under inflated tyres or worn spark plugs can cause it

James Clio 16v

Air filter, plugs, leads, dizzy, CTS are all new.

I have a spare lambda, I think I'll try that.

what mileage are you on

they only last about 60k lambda sensors, the ones on our cars anywayz

MatBrown

I get about 32 mpg, 300 - 350 miles a tank.

Car is on 106k.

Looks like a new lambda is needed.

How much are they?

I paid about £30ish for a sensor new off one of the guys from here. In France the price quoted is £169.00

I worked mine out at at 22mpg, but i've not changed the lambda and the cams aint timed nor is the car mapped... so could be worse! lol

James Clio 16v

Would the lambda sensor also be known as a lambda probe?

Been looking on GSF and ECP and they list a probe, but not a sensor?

Cheers

I've just bought a Lambda Sensor from my local motor factors for £41 plus vat it's made by NGK, will give it a whirl tonight, can't do any harm, except to my wallet :D

Bear in mind it's totally dependant on what type of mileage you do.

Mine only gets about 250 from a tank in winter if I'm lucky, but that's because it's mostly town driving. It will get over 310 in summer on the m-way and that's caning it occasionally.

I'm getting a lot less than that though.

Gonna get a new lambda and whack that in. Can't do any harm.

I get over 300 miles to a tank....usually closer to 350.

Martin, your hybrid is standard engine wise isn't it?

That's what I should be getting really.

FlamingMonkey

I get less than 200miles usually for 30 quids of Optimuck little less using normal stuff

It's just got hill power chip and manifold/exhaust...it is about 80kgs lighter than stnd though which may help a little

I'm getting about the same as FlamingMonkey, but without all the other problems that he seems to be having.

I'm gonna get a new lambda from GSF and chuck that it. I can't think of anything else it can be, the car has just had a full service, so should be running tip-top.

I'll let you know how I get on.

If anybody else has any other ideas, don't be shy.

Cheers

Mine has cams and a remap though, wasn't this bad before the cams, is yours cammed, I put my fuel down to the cams?

James Clio 16v

No its not (as far as I know).

It is a strong engine though, was rolling roaded back in July '05 (before I got the engine) at 155bhp, with a cat back Magnex and induction kit. The plugs, leads, dizzy cap were all knackered when I got engine in October and the oil was a rather fetching shade of black! Will be interesting to see what it is putting out now.

Would the MAP sensor affect the fueling at all?

It wont affect the fueling directly but the ECU in the clio uses it to advance/retard the ignition. If you run too much retard then you dont get as much power and in turn will put your foot down more and use more fuel. I would say that if your milage is comming up to 100k then it's probably a worthy investment as well as coolant temp and iscv, tps, etc as if any of them fail it could leave you up shit creek.

MAP sensor is a direct load measuring device...it influences fuelling dramatically

I didnt think it did on the antiquated ecus in the mk1 clio. I thought it used tps, rpm and lambda but I suppose it must need a reference load reading.

Ok Then, if ur map sensor was stuck then the car would chuck in enough fuel to make ur eyes water

in my 2.0 16v powered valver i used be able get 100 mile out of a tenner driving very very slowly an on mway, normally bout 50-60mile drivin normally an lots less leatherin it
my cossie used waste bout 20 quids worth of juice in about 60-70mile wotever drivin an used qtr tank on a top speed run once, qtr tank bout 12 quids worth
clio turbo uses less than cossie all round, on mway its well better an normal drivin its not much worse, flat out its not much differant

Or, do...

Number of litres bought divided by 4.546 = X gallons.

Number of miles done since last fill-up divided by X gallons = MPG

How nerdy and sad

Got the lambda through today, but I'm not gonna have a chance to fit it until the weekend.

Hopefully it will make a difference.
