If you were to stick a megane 2.0 lump in with a valver head, which preferably woudl be the best ECU to run, a valver ECU or a megane ECU....imagine williams ecu isn't an option

id run valver as its set up for the head mate

the megane has a differant ignition set up and most probally differant codes in the ecu.

I hope your going hybrid mate...tis the future.

megane ECU just wouldnt run the engine

u need a 1.8/willy ecu mapped to suit your engine

16v ECU with williams mapping?

Lunner
20-12-2005, 19:39
what about a atd 16v ecu for the short term...and the custom mapped to the car

R-Tuner?

lol he wont want to piss about with r tuner!

im running a willy 3 ecu, with prima racing chip sems to run fine. i dont think enough fuel is pumped in on the valver ecu... if you want i'll run the valver ecu for a few days and revert back to the williams one for a comparison.

Megane ECU won't work.

Valver will run too lean top end so williams is the best (or a valver ECU chipped to 2ltr spec)

For simplicity and cheapness Cant he just buy one of those performance chips for a williams off ebay and put it in as 16v ECU??

yep - dont see why not!

or maybee visit nick hill and get a chip.

No because those chips just improve the 2ltr map and won't a contain a complete map neccessary to change a 1.8 ECU to 2ltr spec.

Oh right. I thought it was a complete replacement eeprom

As i said williams ECU isn't an option....at all, and in any form...imagaine there isn't a 2.0 16v clio in existance.

Gunner that woudl be great if you woudln't mind mate, just wanna get a feel, see if tis drivable for a few weeks, not gonna be driving hard to start with anyways....i'll owe you a pint then ;)

stan

the eprom holds the data locally, then every time theignition is switched on, the ecu downloads the data stored. so it should run to 2.0 spec for eg...

Lunner
21-12-2005, 18:16
Yes but as i said imagibne the 2.0 16v clio doesn't exist, only a 2.0 16v laguna/megane

stan

im on about using a 1.8 ecu...

tricky
21-12-2005, 18:44
me too luner. Read the post properly matey. If you install the 2.0 eprom into a common as muck 1.8 16v ecu then the ecu will use the values stored on the 2.0 16v eprom chip and as all the sensors, injectors are the same on a 1.8 as a 2.0 then all the circuits are there in the 1.8 ecu to be used with the 2.0 instuctions (MAP).

Lunner
21-12-2005, 18:47
Ahhh gotcha, sorry thought you were on about using a 2.0 16v map and then it adjusts itself to teh car so to speak....anyways get you now.

What sorta price do these go for, its only for the short term, as i said a few weeks/months

stan
21-12-2005, 18:48
right its like this:

whatever data is stored on the eprom is used in the ecu for the map values

so, u fit a 2.0 chip to a 1.8 ECU...u have a 2.0 spec ECU. exactly the same as when i fitted a 2.0 big-vlave chip to my 1.8 ECU with the R-Tuner set-up

Lunner
21-12-2005, 18:54
Sweet, so what sorta price are these things, if they are too much i'll just run teh 1.8 ecu for a while and let it run like a bag o' wank for a few weeks till i can get it mapped properly

tricky

About £50 and it's a 2.0 base map that's been given a higher rev limit. The bigger valves shouldn't be a problem either as the chip will chuck in more fuel probably as most of them do. Infact it'll probably be suited nicely to the extra breathing.

You should deffo go for it mate. I've put a willy lump in my rsi and it's a nice fit and plenty of grunt

There you go. The guy will ring you to ask for the serial number of the donor ECU so you just need to tell him your situation and the serial number and it should be a turn-key solution.
