since new clutch fitted and new cam belt, im taking it easy with the old girl.
im noticing my oil temp is much higher than normal, im not booting it, or going over 70.
ive just had an oil and filter change too.
its going around 100/110 im finding that its down to about 90 on normal roads. it was about 20 less allround before.
should i stop being a wuss or take it back to garage and tell them?
what oil have they put in mate?

5 40
was running ok for a week before cam and clutch done.
it had x2 engine flush too.
fine mate. IMO anyway!
Mine used to sit about 90, but now sits at 100 when gunning it. No problem as long as it aint much over 100!
probably due to different quality oil. those temps arent excessive, but i personally would want to know why there had been a change
dunt sound to be owt wrong wi that mate tbh. mines usually att bout 120+
Wish Reno didn't put that bloody oil temp gauge on the willys/valvers, makes everybody paranoid!!
nar - i think the gauge is great.
Tells u when the cars had enough track time.
Only one i would change is the outside air temperature. Im sure they could have thought of something a little more sportier instead
which oil were you using before, and what is in it now ?
like a mirror for u??
or how about a device that tells u when the last time the car moved under its own steam.......ur kids would date back to march or summat
gazs would b june 2003
they should have used the 19's set up on the clio. outside temp, mpg, avg speed, fuel left, distance till fuel runs out.
agreed chris! pointless just having an innacurate outside temp sensor! :?
I like the oil level gauge, first car I've owned to have one! Altho not 100% accurate, gives a good indication of oil level! Don't know why all cars don't have one tbh, might prevent a few engine seizures!!
my lagunas got it, it reads oil level for a few secs when u turn on ebgine, drops and that dail is then the engine temp!
Bearing in mind the Water thermostat is around 90 degrees then you want the oil to be around 90 degrees under normal conditions. Too much difference between water and oil temp is bad for the engine.
Up to 120degC is ok for an sae 40 synthetic oil.
Cheers
Simon
Has the oil pressure gone up much after the oil change? If it has, then it's making the engine work harder thus churning out higher engine temperature. 90C OK for usual driving around and up to 120C when hammering the car. And probably the temperature was lower previously with the old oil as it had thinned with age, less pressure, less heat but also less protection.
