Well, would post this on cliosport but would get murdered, so came here instead.

Picked my lass up yesterday, after work, with my mate (3 up including me) and headed back down the dual carrage way, only to see a ferrari being chased by a scooby wrx sti - very dark grey. Obviously i gave chase to see how i would do against the scooby...

now i have said recently to everyone who has been a passenger in my car it has felt faster ever since the cams were retimed, and sorted out the lambda etc etc..

anyway.. the ferrari turned off, and left me with the scooby... there is no getting away from it, the scooby pulled away from me - but not nearly as much as i thought. From 50 mph to around about 110mph he pulled 4-5 car lengths!!...now for the best bit...

i topped...151mph!!!...yes 151 mph on the speedo, with 3 people, and the scooby was going nowhere. He slowed down, and looked over to me, and said (lip reading here) "what the **** is that" lol!! but, yeh. My mate couldn't believe it. I stuck to the scooby like glue, and i have to say it was shocking!... (p.s. i have 15 inch standard willy wheels) - so speedo is spot on!

Anyway, i don't think these speeds are clever, or indeed safe, but the condition were ideal, and it had to be done. :D

it was amazing - i found staying in 5th and simply pulling, and pulling and pulling was the way forward. It was amazing to see he had topped out, and i was just staying right there.

its all but standard.... lol...
no 2.0 conversion, in the valver this is... kent fast road cams, pullies, and new followers. Primer racing chip, Green IK, with two cold air feeds 10cm intake pipes from fog lights. Ummm....... thats it... other than magnex exhaust.

It was pushing out 170bhp at the Rolling Road at GDI, but... ben r retimed the cams, and andy drove it, and said its very very quick.

Good first topic BigChris!! 151mph  I could only manage 148ish in my old williams....the banana just hits the limiter in 5th too quickly though  Getting the rev limit upped today though so maybe I'll have a chance for a test run on the way back. :)

Ps Whats your rev limit set at?

think I still hold the all time record for speed in a Williams then :D off the clock with revs to go, if the clocks did read further it was over 160 easily anyway... that gearbox may be going back in tho at some point

Northy, we were doing 145 not the last time but the time before pal... so you've deffo beat the 135 benchmark! lol

Don't forget to include the 10% speedo error though lads.

Still bloody fast though.

yeah, no idea what the real speed would have been, prolly just under 150?

yeah, mine was kinda the opposite or your m8, took a big ass hill to get on cam after changing from 4th to 5th, but then it started to move again... still had 300rpm to go til redline too...

15-03-2005, 16:20
mine revs to 8k... not that i ever use it.

i find that it pulls much better to 150 from say 90 in fifth, that say sticking it in fourth... weird that.

lol... wasn't me this time.... Withut the aid of a mountain to drive down, there's not much chance of my 172 doing 150mph!!!

lol... wasn't me this time.... Withut the aid of a mountain to drive down, there's not much chance of my 172 doing 50mph!!!

Got to agree there. How are the chocolate engine mounts?

LOL. Seem to be even more evident on the 182's than the 172's for some reason... :?:

No problem with mine though. In fact *touches wood* I've had absolutely zero problems with mine - not even the 4k rattle. Surprising because I give it death at every given opportunity. No rust on the arches yet either....

150...thats an achievement! bet the scooby was a bit shocked plus 3 up, it must be a quick one, are you going to FCS Chris?

yeh, definately is a quick one i reckon. Number of people have said its a nice engine. When is the FCS, not that im ignorant, just tied up with other things!

If its summer time, may well be going.

On mine, running 15's when the speedo reads 133 gps says 124...and it was pulling very slowley, and i was one up, plus an extra bonnet, not bad for something only pulling 110 bhp

I've had a GPS unit in my Williams, and I worked-out the speedo in mine to be about 5% out.

Not manage to get past 135mph in mine yet, and that was struggling. Mine seems pretty flat though, and it's pinking like a bitch, so will hopefully be able to improve on that soon...

(p.s. i have 15 inch standard willy wheels) - so speedo is spot on!

-------------------------

speedo never spot on always overread so 151 would be more like 135ish. i overtook a old skool scooby in my tuned 172 at 145 on the clock he looked gutted his missis sittin next to him must have wanted me badly after that

Mine used to do a genuine 142mph on the gps with speedo reading 150mph. Now will only do about 125mph.
