View Full Version : Power steering noise

Since putting the Williams engine in the car, I'm getting noises from the power steering.

I used the pump from my 16v engine as it was reconditioned last year and worked fine.

I'm not getting whining noises (using Slick 50 fluid which seems to stop that), but I'm getting a fairly loud clicking noise, but only on full lock. It sounds like the belt is catching on something (the channelling for the fuel hoses runs quite close to the belt), but it can't be this as it is only on full lock and it would be doing it all the time.

Any ideas, as this seems to be the only problem I can't work out.

Cheers

James

No whining and the ps fluid is brand new, only finished fitting the engine yesterday.

Getting noises on both locks, seems to be a bit of squeeling from the belt too.

I'm starting to think the belt is not tight enough, or maybe too tight.

What do you think?

I tightened the belt and it wasnt as bad but still did the annoyin noises! love to know what it is! rack? pump?

It's not the rack, mine is only 2 years old.

I never had it on my old 16v engine and the pump is the same, so can only assume it's something to do with the belt.

It just seems so weird as I used the same ps pump.

I'll try tightening the belt to see if that cures it. Bloody mission that is itself!

I'll keep you posted.
