how hard is it to convert a 1.4rt loom into the 16v 1?

also what do i need to upgrade? ive already got brakes, can i still run rt suspension, track etc?

i noticed the other day that when i took the dash top off that there where extra connectors not connected? ie digital temp for 16v clocks? oil temp/pressure etc? can i when the loom is converted run the dials?? are these the right connectors?

sorry wrong section?

You'll need the engine half of the loom, this disconnects seperate, AFAIK the car side of the loom is the same for all models.

You'll need higher poundage springs, or lowering springs for the front end, dont' worry about rear brakes, but get valver or 4-pot front brakes

Stearing is all teh same as the RT.

Connectors behind the dash will connnect inot the oil gauges

Will also need a 16v ECU, forgot about that, pretty damn sure the 16v egnine loom will plug into the RT car loom

It does plug straight in....ive done one of these before. u will also need exhaust sytem, drive shafts, rad/fan....and before anyone mentios it...you DONT need the bonnet. tho it is advisable to fit one for the vent, or at least vent the RT one

on the right hand side (as u look at it) of the engine bay is a black plastic "box". this is the relay box. the engine loom (inc relay box) plugs into the car loom here via 2/3 multiplugs. once u have the 16v engine/loom fitted, just plug the engine loom into the car loom....the same way u took the 1.4 loom out.

why do u want to do this conversion? save on insurance? not just buy a cheap valver and do what repairs u need?

stan

insurance reasons

really depressin really but basically ive had a ban, im 18 years old and i was paying 2400 a year to insure my valver, now im paying 1650 to insure a 1.4, plus ive got a great shell to do this with, n reg 80k miles tiny, tiny amount of rust, already got 16v brakes gearbox, front bumper wings, black carpet phs2 interior, 55mm lowering springs and ive got some mechanical knowledge as i was a mechanical for 15 months, also peeps on here are so helpful its gna be very cheap for me to do,

only thing is the rear arches?

doing for myself, not to make money on the car!

wots peeps opinions?

Jamie.

Lunner
18-12-2005, 19:33
Yeah, but don't forget you still need to decalir a conversion, unless it looks the same ;)....and insuring a conversion is more than insuring a straight valver.

Why not go for a 1.6 bottem end ;)

Lunner
18-12-2005, 20:59
