Where-abouts does the needle rest on peoples oil temp guages, once up to temperature? Mine seems to stay around 120 degrees (5th line up), which seems mighty high to me

Doesn't get any higher though, even after a bout of high speed driving.

thats a bit high that mate,

mine used to sit higher when i bought it but after a few oil changes which im guessing was the problem in the first place it now sits at,

Round town just under 80*C
On motorway - 100*C,
When hammering it, staying around 4.5k-7k through the gears - 100*C,

However on Oulten i had it up to 120 once but then let it cool down for a bit first, i'd give it a good oil change pal and make sure you get it done every 3-4k and it should run cooler!

80-100, always :) unless its real cold and its just round town etc then around 70-80.

It will depend alot on what oil you use.

120 sounds a bit high to me, too..

I think if I remember mine sits at around 90-100 ish, about a 100 on the motor way, the oil pressure sits a few notches below half way at normal cruising speeds.

mine is always around 80. Even on the trackday !

80

My 2.0L seats at 80-100 most of the time....never any more

The 1.8L used to go up to 110-120 any speed over a ton....not good lol

Looks like I need to change the oil then!

On the plus side, it seems to heat up quite quickly :D

Thanks for the response guys.

Get a coolant flush and change too.

Mines usually horizontal unless its under real stress, e.g track day

mine never goes over 100 or horizontal when giving it some stick. Normal driving is around 80.

Mine tends to run at about 140 degress on track and about 110 on the road.

Not all Clio's or William's have the oil to water intercooler that is mounted behind the oil filter. This can change the oil temp quite a lot. Also the type and grade of oil can have a bearing on temp. 120 is not a problem if the oil is of a quality to take the heat. 110 is a good figure.

do you want the higher the better or not Nick?

Does mine Nick?

Interesting Nick . I know mine doesnt have the oil cooler behind the filter which is probably why it sees such high temps on track .

I only ever use Millers CFS 10w/60 Motorsport oil in the Clio though so the high temps arent too much of a problem.

I used to see 140 on the m-way! and 110 normal.

But after the new rad and low temp stat and fan switch, with new fan and a coolant flush I tend to see 110 on the m-way and only 80-90 on the road.

I saw temps of nearly 150 degrees on the motorway once . I was chasing an M3 and M Coupe through France and had been banging off the rev limiter in fifth for quite a while.

Can't say I've ever seen it that high  . But then I've not managed to hit the limiter in 5th ever (6600rpm the highest, with an assisting decline).

After closer and more regular inspection, it now doesn't look so bad. 90-100 degrees normal driving, 110-120 on the motorway. The temperature rises relative to speed, so at 80mph it's 110, 100mph it's 120. I obviously drive too fast on the motorway...

Water temperature has never been above high way, so I presume that would mean the radiator and cooling system is fine...I hope.

Thanks again for the help people.
