The following data will help you find the correct spares for your Williams gearbox, should a repair be necessary. Some but not many of the gears are unique to the Williams, although if you have more than one gear to replace it may mean stripping down more than one spare gearbox.

Specifications
Type: JC5 014
Gear Teeth: 1st=11,34 2nd=22,41 3rd=28,37 4th=34,35 5th=39,31 Reverse=11,26,39
Differential: 15,61 teeth
Speedometer Drive: 21,29 teeth

The Williams Clio Gearbox is unique in terms of its combination of gear ratios, in particular 1st and 4th gears use combinations not found in any other JC5 boxes.

However, the differential gear combination is found in other Renault JC5 gearboxes, and these are:

JC5 016, 017, 022, 025, 026, 028, 029, 033, 037, 038, 039, 040, 045, 047, 048, 053, 066, 067, 075, 076

The Speedo Drives can similarly be found in:
JC5 052

1st Gear: The 11 toothed gear is common to all JC5 boxes, but the 34 tooth gear is unique to the Williams.

2nd Gear: The 22 and 41 toothed gears are common to JC5 005, 028, 029, 037, 038, 039, 040, 044, 047, 048, 053, 075, 076 boxes.

3rd Gear: The 28 and 37 toothed gears are common to JC5 002, 004, 005, 014, 016, 017, 022, 024, 025, 026, 032, 033, 036, 044, 045, 052, 053, 067, 075, 076 boxes.

4th Gear: The 34 and 35 toothed gears are common to JC5 025, 053, 075, 076 boxes.

5th Gear: The 39 toothed gear is common to JC5 024, 025, 026, 032, 036, 053, 066, 075, 076 boxes. The 31 toothed gear is common to JC5 002, 004, 005, 014, 016, 017, 022, 024, 026, 032, 033, 036, 044, 045, 052, 067 boxes.

Reverse: The reverse gears are common to all JC5 types.

what about the differences between the JC5 and JC3 then??? Cos i'm running a valver box in mine...

Is there any way the JC5 172 Cup box can be used in a Williams, as apparently it's stronger, but uses an electronic throttle or something???

die bitch! lol

i like the valver box... well, I like my valver box! tis good, we'll see how long it lasts, but so far no crunching even into reverse... which according to Clean16v is rare... although it may be the way he drives ;)

Mine don't crunch into reverse either on the Hybrid.

I have just fited a JC5 5053 Box.
The car is different to drive now...lol The ratios are certainly diff to the valver box i had in.

1st is definitely longer
2nd is
3rd is
4th is
5th is..

I will get some speeds up as and when..
the drive is very smooth compared to the valverbox, the gears are slicker,.. i envisage a crazy top speed.. and at lower revs...

i could get 70 in 2nd before.. i reckon i can exeed that now.

So despite the wider mounting position of the holes on the box, modding a certain secret mount enables the box to sit perfectly in the engine bay.

this means that any JC5 series box can be fit to a williams... thats LAGUNA, MEGANE,CLIO MK2,CLIO 172 (MK1) as long as the mech speedo cable drive can be fettled with your ok...
