Had a quality sprint race with a saxo vts last night. I spyed him going round the island on to a small strip of dc. Followed behind to show my intensions lol. Was right behind him in 2nd and he booted it, there was nothin in it through 2nd and he moved over in to the left lane so we could have a proper blast. 8) It was very close but by the end of 3rd my cars bonnet was level with his door and then in 4th up to 110 his bonnet was next to my door lol. So that means i won :P It was very close and i think my tired old valver on 148k did very well to pull from behind to have my nose in front. I was like pulling past him at say 1mph lol. I reckon if we kept going to say 130 the valver would be say half a car in front or something.

Av it you vts owners............OWNED.

Alwyas remember fred and roamer having as play with a VTS in birmingham......d/c and r/about each end, fred was about 1 car length behind after one lap, roamer in his williams was about half a car length ahead after one lap

Good race though. 1 - 0

hahaha.... thats what i did to a vts driver.. lol.

in my valver my mate in his vtr thought for some reasoni was in a 1.2 he followed me on to the dual carriageway..

i lured him in to a false sense of security.. letting him edge next to me... i made some physical gestures indicating that my car wouldnt go any faster...

then i offered him the bird and pulled 20 lengths on him.

i duly waited for him at the lights.. he wound his passenger window down and leant across his bird... "Whats in that",
i replied: " not a 1.2"

My bro used to have a VTS running 160bhp (same as my valver)

That was very very slightly quicker.....

Had a few do's with vts's in my 1991 non-cat valver and it always has the edge on them, unless they are tweaked obviously!

their both compareble cars but the fact still stands... VALVERS SOUND BETTER

Class little vid that. Only a vtr by the looks of it though craig  Also, i reckon the car you in has some serios power, id guess at about 216bhp by the way you went past the saxo  lol

thats not a vts guys cant be, over the last week iv played with x3 1.8s and they all were no way near me by 120mph after seeing all ur posts bout vts ect id like to lay the gauntlet down and say if someones got a mildly tuned valver or williams and fancys a blast down the dc let me know id be interested as u all say u blast them out the watter but in my experiance its not the case

Andyvalver
14-12-2005, 11:30
I never said id blast them out the water :P I got my bonnet in front from being behind :P lol

The first vid is a vts and the second is a vtr i think mate.

Doesnt yours have about 160bhp anyway?

skipp123
14-12-2005, 11:32
alot of these vtrs are badged as vts but iv now badged mine as a westy lol, that surprises a few people

skipp123
14-12-2005, 11:34
mines only got a filter and decat made something like 149bhp at the fly power to weight is 161 per tonn now its stripped something like that anyway

Andyvalver
14-12-2005, 11:36
You see, that wouldnt be fair would it lol. Mines standard with de-cat + ik but is not stripped and has stuff flying round in the boot lol.

Quick queston... Does a valver have more torque than a vts? If so would it matter if a vts pulled out a bit more power?

skipp123
14-12-2005, 11:37

14-12-2005, 12:27
wots the engine spec on a standard VTS?

Andyvalver
14-12-2005, 12:29
The early ones were 120bhp and the later ones 130bhp i think.

skipp123
14-12-2005, 12:33
they were all suppost to be 120bhp but there was roumors of 130bhp modles in year 2000.

Craig
14-12-2005, 14:22
first vid was defo a VTS. he stopped for a chat after with weight!

2nd vid i dont actualy know but im guessing a VTR considering how fast i went past (and he was flat out).

altho my clio has 240/ton so most of either would get toasted anyway ;)

J o n
14-12-2005, 14:25
most VTS' make over 135ATF when RR'd anyway, so like Reno's they loosen up. I imagine the valver would have done back in the day, but most have high miles and are worn regardless. I think if you put a rebuilt valver against a 172 and VTS there would not be a lot in it once it's run in. Nor should there be really, valver still has a good power to weight and would imagine also make over 140bhp for the most. My Willy made 156ATF with a diesel gearbox and an open IK (power run had to be done in 3rd!!! lol). That was with about 60+k on the clock.

As for the car Craig rinsed it prolly was a VTS. It's hard to actually understand how fast that car is, but with Mehdi driving and me and Adi as passengers we had a do with a VTS with just the driver and the beast pulled away easily. Had Mehdi been on his own it would be like a Ferrari racing a Golf...

How dare you compare a Clio with a Ferrari.

Italian pieces of shit

When I raced my Clio the times I was running with a completely standard engine (still had cat on aswell) were the same as a VTS with an IK & De-catted exhaust.

They're quick cars no doubt, I prefer the 106Gti's though.

See ya

I imagin my clio is well run in havin done 148k but the result i got was the result i expected tbh. I always thought i would get it higher up after 60 and i did but only very slowly pulled past. Would a 1.8 valver have more peak torque than a vts has it has 200cc more? Surely if it has then it makes up for the extra bhp some of these vts's are making :?

J o n
14-12-2005, 19:52
no replacement for displacement... sorta... lol

those VTS' are a very mixed bag, there are some you will smoke, then there are ones like Craggy's... which you wont see which way it went. Most wont be like his though.

Andyvalver
14-12-2005, 19:58
Yeah, thats my thoughts. The ones ive raced in the past have been about the same again but never raced one to over a ton like this time. :D

14-12-2005, 21:18
YEEESSS, just cruisin through melton (got bored) and pulled up to the lights and a chav in a VTS pulled up next to me givin it the bigun, kool first race ive had VS a VTS, pretty much hammered it into the ground lol

Andyvalver
14-12-2005, 21:42
hammered it in to the ground

I know i only just beat one so how much did you win by? They are quick motors to be fair.

iv yet to see a vts get into the 14s down the strip with just simple breathing mods..............let alone get near the 14.5s that craggys used to pull.

awesome car that........had a LOT of battles against it lol.....i even lost a couple

J o n
15-12-2005, 11:37
certainly a freak, although I've heard of one other that is just about getting mid 14's with some consistency. 90% of the time the valver 'should' just edge it for me though, providing it's a strong engined example...

i've nothing but respect for the VTS these days really, as it's a cheaper to buy and insure 106GTI. lot of car for not a lot of money, can't fault that really.

Andyvalver
15-12-2005, 11:54
Cheaper to insure than a gti? Not for me chap, see my insurance thead lol

J o n
15-12-2005, 12:39
yeah, tis weird that, pretty sure they are a group 11/12 and the Pug is 14... mind you mate, all those quotes seem pretty cheap. How old and how many no claims you on?

i've just renewed this month and it's £490ish fully comp and protected... was shocked, so much cheaper than last year and nowhere else could touch that quote... nearest next best was £800+ :?

Andyvalver
15-12-2005, 12:48
There not that cheap mate they are tpft. Im 23 with 3 yncb and 1 accident. They come donw quite a bit if you put a women on the policy, any women lol. The 106gti was only £20 more to insure than my valver.

Agreed. And you'd do a lot worse than use a VTS as a track car too...

J o n
15-12-2005, 12:54
aah, that's well expensive in that case then!

i was paying £722 fully comp at 23 with 4 years ncd and that's protected... all through direct line, who i have to say have been amazing. I dont know where there prices come from for renewals, but renewing online is always more expensive, it must be a loyalty type bonus or something... used them for last 3 years now. mind you, i've not crashed, so really they should actually give me my money back... the c****

Andyvalver
15-12-2005, 12:56
Its cuz i had an accident 3 yearas ago. They still hold it against me

find a insurance company that only registers crashes up to 3 years some hold it till 5 though try elephant or admrill

I remember on cliosport a year or so ago there was a thread similar to this and there was a lot of mixed opinions regarding valvers vs vts'. I managed to set up a little do against one of the cliosport members in his valver vs my vts. He was pretty certain he could rinse my vts as he had raced many beforehand and did not have any problems beating them.

Anyway, we met up and had a bit of a do from 0-80 ish His mods were: stripped/exhaust inc. decat/filter. Mine: exhaust/fiter. We both had 1 passenger and he got the jump on me in 1st and went about 1/2 a car lenght ahead, end of 2nd, i was level, into 3rd, i started pulling away & was ahead by a car length by 80ish. I reckon if we had raced up to a ton, i would have been atleast 2/3 car lengths ahead. The lad was suprised at how well my vts went and did film it too, and you could see that once i was in 3rd i had the legs on him.
Ain't got the vid on my pc anymore but might have it on cd somewhere, will the post it up. The lad was suprised at how well my vts went

I think imo valvers vs vts' on average are pretty much identical in performance. It just seems that you get some fast, some slow of each car, like on SSC, there is a 1/4 mile leader board & some near standard vts' are in the 14's(craggy's still to be beaten @ 14.5)and some near standard ones in the very high 15's early 16's.

I wouldn't mind going against another valver/williams just to compare the differences against the last one i raced :D

Andyvalver
17-12-2005, 12:33
Nice one. It seems the other way around to what happened why i raced a vts. I pulled from behind to have my bonnet in front. Was very even though tbh. If it was a track race or something that small difference would mean nothing and it would be very even again.

Neil1587
17-12-2005, 12:43
Yeah i too reckon on track the difference would be minimal. Think we should have an SSC vs Williamsclio track day at some time in the future lol

There are some quick track focused saxo's on ssc which i reckon would put up a good fight against the standard/none standard williams' & valvers. Will have a word with the track events organiser on ssc & see if we can make anything of this:D

17-12-2005, 17:06
Yeah i too reckon on track the difference would be minimal. Think we should have an SSC vs Williamsclio track day at some time in the future lol

good idea! lol i remember these use to be some quick VTS's on there when i had me old saxo, would be nice to see a few std vs std and modded vs modded saxos/valvers/williams :D
