....bring my VGA card to its knees.

Just got myself a new nvidia 6800 card and would like try some gaming eye candy. The single-player game that everyone recommends is F.E.A.R. Best I have played some time ago was "Far Cry".

Any other to check out? Something with a bit of plot and not just violent for the sake of violence. Multiprocessor-capable would be a bonus.

yes there's a few to try that make my PC struggle badly...

Half Life 2 - can run this full everything in 1024... goes a bit choppy above this res...
Quake 4 - this should really stress the card as it's almost entirely DX9
Call of Duty 2 - run this with DX9 and full AA, looks incredible and should stress the card.

Call of Duty 2 gets my vote, chuck a smoke grenade and that tests my AMD 3700 duel with a gforce 6200 (6200 will be upgraded soon). And its also a top muliplayer!

Looks like Call of Duty 2 and Battlefield 2 get most of you votes. Although, am not a fan of the military genre shooter games - I will check them out. Probably have to stick with 1024x768/ low AA to get them to play decently, but that should look pretty enough.

Battlefield 2 is great but far to memory intensive. I can run HL2 on full everything and it is brilliant...same on Far Cry and several other greatlooking games....BF2 is just over top and I`m not about to start spending more money on ram just to find that I need to upgrade other stuff as well.

Do you mean Lost Coast m8? I can run that perfectly (although it says you need min 2.2 ghz and mine is 2.1) The stained glass windows in the church look amazing with the distorted view of the enemy thru them...

Looks like Battlefield2 is the leading hardware choker. Perhaps I should have also asked for hardware configuration as well. Like what sort of CPU/VGA/RAM/resolution? And which games chokes it.

Mine: Dual-AthlonXP 2600+/Nvidia6800/1.5GB/1024x768
Games: Haven't tried any yet on the new VGA card.
