View Full Version : Braided Brake Lines
Anyone had these fitted and do they make a difference in your wise and unbiased opinions :!:
Only got the rears fitted, although my pedal is spongy and sicne i chamged all teh fluid i can only imagine its the front rubber lines....must get soem new copper lines made up and get my braided ones ont eh front fitted
got them on the front and rear, deffo make a nice difference... although I cant really tell anymore as me brakes are fooked now anyway... :cry:
Thanks Lads.Think I'll go for them.Returning my camber bolts to K-Tec and might aswell go for something instead of a refund.
Yer definately worth it in my opinion, gave the pedal a much firmer feel, especially after using them for quite a while, also not had any fade since i've fitted them with the new calipers, discs, pads and fluid, so thats a bonus!
standard rubber are just as good and cheaper.
They may feel better but comparing them to perished 12 year old rubber anything feels better.
I use rubber unless some one wants me to fit them, after all the customer is apparently always right!
tbh Chris I think with most Reno owners it's just peace of mind more than anything. lol
main annoyance with the braided lines is you cannae clamp them if you need the caliper off at a later date.
Also the braid will cut through anyhtign it touches. if its rubbing on the alloy wheel it will go through ther wheel before the braided line!
When I used to work on V8's a lot I used to see braided fuel and oil lines which worn through cam cases, heads and cam covers!
When fitting them, btw if diy, make sure the caliper bleed nipple is OPEN before fitting the pipes.
I can see your point about cannot clamping them but hey if it gives the a better feeling.

Provided the rest of the brake system is in decent condition, you should have a touch sharper bite at the end of the pedal travel with braided hoses.
i had goodridge braided hoses fitted last saturday and dot 5 fluid as the standard ones were persished, pedal feels firmer and brakes feels better
Chris, Goodridge now plastic coat their lines so the braid doesn't damage anything (especially fingers)
we got williams/16v lines in stock (stainless)
oh and i'd be happy to do a group buy if you lot are interested
(can include 172/182/V6 also)
i have them on, felt better with them but still opted for 4pots lol
here richy,do you happen to have any photos of those black wheels you have on yer car?
i have the goodridge braided ones on mine, got fed up of needing new flexy hoses every mot!
not really felt the difference but then they have been fitted ages so just used to it really.
now they will probably pick me up for needed a new cat or somthing else to make there money dam mot people :S

they make no difference, the reason people may think it feels better after they have been fitted is becuase you have got to bleed the system after the new lines are on the car, this means new fluid ,and any air in the system is removed hence the improved braking. 8)
Suppose there are advantages and disadvantages.
Disadvantages being that if you are forever messin around with your calipers their a pain cause you cant clamp them.
Advantages being that if you do use them you are more likely to renew break fluid more often than not.
Also with them there is a less likely chance someone is gonna try to kill you by cutting the rubber break lines. :idea:

you fit em bleed em and then thats that
Because every time you take your calipers off you need to bleed at least a little fluid.or am I mistaken?With the rubber ones you clamp and drain less fluid than with braided hoses.

Pah!! Before changing/servicing calliper undo the Brake reservoir cap and Put some cling film or the right sized rubber grommet over the neck then put the cap back. That will stop a lot of the seepage. Then afterwards just top the fluid back up to replace any that went amiss.
Oh, and on all the cars I've driven with them on the braided lines have been a lot better. Although can cause easier lockups on none ABS cars.

they dont have brakes lol, better stopping power using a fishing line

yes mate use to be on SSC a few year ago, had a VTR before i got the williams, yes thats were i 'borrowed' the saying lol
