also wot sort of sensible mods are avlabile for the williams and wot sort or increases in power do they give.

ps i currently own a escort rs turbo and im hopeing that the willimas cant be as unreliable as this.

cheers chris

Built out of cardboard i think?
Poor interior quality,
Bloody noisy,
Not as quick as i had hoped in standard form.
Very basic,
lets be honest, there bloody expensive for what they are.
but.
Great fun,
Handle very well,
Rare and unique,
Something about it that makes me smile!!!

An honest summary

lol..mine mustv been made by some other german motor manufacturer then lol^^^^^^^^

had mine nearly 4 years now, only things that needed replacing are , clutch, springs, brake pads/discs, exhaust.

never really given me an bit of trouble, only time its ever broke down is when the cams failed....no fault of renos, or mine mite i add.(thanks for nothing kent)

iv had 2 vws.....the ultimate bulletproof motors????????? i killed em both inside 12 months....german shite.....

i am a bit of an engine killer by the style of my driving, il be the 1st to admit.........as yet......3 clios over a 7 year ownership period.....not blown 1 engine.........few gearboxes like lol......but the blocks are fukkin bulletproof.

4 years hard thrashing......still no rattles squeeks or annoying rumbles/noises. onl;y thing that lets mine down really, is the stonechipped to fuk front end......but for a near 12 year old car thats bin thrashed to within an inch of its life for the last 4 years....u kinda expect that

make sure u get a good un and the little bit extra u mite pay over another 1 will save u thousands in the long run.

and always go for the mintest unpainted bodywork u can, mechanically they are as said b4, pretty bulletproof, but they do suffer from the tin worm............fortunately......mine doesnt hehe

and probably the comfiest seats ul ever park ur arse in.

i agree on this one too, this is why i havnt gone for a williams, i absolutlylove the williams but if i had one one i would wanna change anything about it coz they are so special IE i have bucket seats in my car now, i wouldnt have done that to wa williams, so the hybrid is deffinatly a good route to go, a wolf in sheeps clothing is the only way i can desribe it!!!!
oh and would be a good idea to get williams wide track on there too, thats next on my list!

Best bit of advice you can give someone buying a Williams and so true.

Not sure I agree with that part though, as I'm pretty sure mines had paint work (or at least been mopped)! So long as the car is genuine, paint work isn't a problem ... I hope

Are you sure that's not purely to have a dig at some one else

the F7R is a bullet proof engine(kinda) i compare it to other renault engines which i work on and there pants esp 2.0 IDE lol

the car body/interior etc well its french so there never exactly super built, but would u want your car to weigh 15ton? weres the fun in that, if u want a well built reliable car buy a vw bardge(golf) only 1.9ton lol

no mate thats not a dig...personally id rather buy a tatty lookin but all original motor than 1 thats been spruced up to look good for a sale.

if the bodywork is mint and original, the cars obviously been looked after, this care will extend to under the bonnet also, as well as underneath the car etc

Jon's always said this since day 1. it's down to being more costly to sort bodywork as he can fix it all himself... but then if you have a garage as good as the one I use now engine work is cheap as chips. i'm only gonna pay £100 for a gearbox change when I get that done.

Zollo
09-12-2005, 17:31
It wasn't that I think body work is more important than the oily bits. Personally I don't think you can have a mechanically sound car that looks like a pile of crap, just as you can't have a mechanical dog that looks mint. So to me, they're both as important to the average person as each other.

My point was that just because a car has had paint work, it doesn't mean it's a lesser car. You've just got to be a little more careful it's been done for the right reason.

09-12-2005, 21:49
lol^^^^^^^kinda true.....but look at the mid 80s early 90s jap crap......engines lasted forever.......bodywork fell apart after 1/2 a bad winter.

think back b4 that too..240 zs .laurels etc
..same can be said for some newer cars.

true......paintwork on a car doesnt mean its a shed.....but id be wary of buying one with paintwork done, unless its all documented with photographic records etc. to show the extent of the damage before any work is undertaken. altho most dodgy bits can be quite easily spotted.

Zollo
09-12-2005, 22:03
True, and I'll bet that a 240Z would now be worth a lot more with a quality paint job than without

Basically, what we're both saying is, buy the very best you can afford, both cosmetically and mechanically, because it'll save you money in the long run. :D

09-12-2005, 22:42
yep........but given the option of a mint body , but some tlc needed mechanically, or a mint mech, with arch rust , repaired or not, and other bodywork imperfections......... id be goin with the mint body. mech parts are far easier and cheaper to replace than body panels n paint.....n if u get 1 thats never been painted before, apart from at the factory, ul know exactly why its gunna get paint in the future.......and a genuine unpainted 1 will always be more desirable to a prospective buyer than 1 thats jus had a complete respray in my experience. for most cars, ppl see shiny paint n think it must b mint......enthusiasts, who know a little bit more about these things than ur ave joe, will b suss

thanks for the very helpfull advice guys, i agree with you both on the basis that when i bought my rst the exterior bodywork was not mint but fixable and the underbody and common rot spots were ok ware as a couple i had seen looked in a1 condition for the outside but as soon as i pulled the carpets back i could see that they were rotten.

however , some may be dissapointed, i have decided to keep my rst and get it as mint as possible and buy a clio 16v as a winter/some track use car as they seem to cost less and i wouldnt be bothered bout thrashing it as much as i would a ltd williams.

once again thanks for all the advice as it will be very useful for wen it get a valver and mabye a williams in the future.

cheers chris

2live,
Maybe I am the odd one out here. Mine's original paintwork but has the usual dents and nicks of a 10 year old car. I have never put much money on the aesthetics of the cars I have owned.

But when it comes to mechanicals like brakes, suspension engines etc, I am as obsessive as anyone. My basic rule of thumb is "if it doesn't slow me down, I ain't fixing it". Everytime I think about a new paint job for the car - I inevitably spend the money on replacing some mechanical bits.

thing is tho mate, with the weather u have u wont really need to look after the paintwork as much as u would in our climate.

and bits.....if it aint broke dont fix it........fantastic motto lol
