Well it has got to the point over the last year or so hardley anyone is interested in teh cars, just their sad little internet lives, and posting shit, IMO its no longer a car forum, its just a general chat forum.

They ahve driven away the wrong people, the dedicated car nuts, they shoudl drive away the likes of lady substance and mikec (if they are still there) that contribute nothing to the car side of things, and just post shite

It does, doesnt it? Maggy engine is bassically the same but came after the willy engine. Willy engine is bassically a valver engine

Nah, the 2L Megane engine was a 5 cylinder Volvo engine with the 5th cylinder lopped off! One of the last Renault / Volvo part shares.

I read that. What a tit. Like he says, he obviously doesn't understand the Williams.

Really good cars are generally the ones that are more than the sum of their parts anyway. :)

He he, looks like I started a bit of a slagging match over at CS

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=97217&page=3

Its a shame that can happen when you just inform someone of some facts and they think you are having a go. That guy Jones has no idea! Some people just cant take it when they are wrong...

I always thought the meggy engine was the same as the willy lump except for the head which has slighty different porting making a more supirior engine ever slo slightly. ( think i read that on a post from Chris H on retro renault) The engine code is F7R **. :?

Jimbob
03-12-2005, 15:09
This is what I posted on CS and I believe it to be true (someone correct me if I'm wrong - constructively and not CS style!!!)

"...as for the Megane 2L sport engine, this was different to the Williams F7R in that it (Megane) was the 2.5L 5 cylinder Volvo engine minus the 5th cylinder - a different lump all together. This was the last Volvo / Renault part share. Sure it shared a few components with it, and it did have the crank from the 1.9 diesel (it was stronger than the 1.8 16v crank - for the extra torque)"

The megane engine is the same in the Laguna 2L S. The F7R only appeared in the Williams and Renault Sport Spider race car.

Anyone?

Erm....dont sound quite right! But i could be wrong! All i know is that...

F7P - Clio 1.8 16v Engine '91-96

F7R - 700 - Clio Williams 2.0 16v '93-95

F7R - 710 - Megane Coupe 2.0 16v

The williams and megane engines are slightly different. Different heads - bigger valves on the meg head, slightly different water channels in the block, different distributer system, different inlet manifold. Same bore and stroke, uses same engine map IIRC

Not sure about the 2.5L 5 cylinder volvo engine idea - havent heard any other theories tho!

:D

stew is right.

the N series lumps were the volvo lumps and they be shite says I.

Stew i'll sort out that pm from you later!

Like I said any probs with the car let me know. Oh btw on bens 1 horn was dodgy and it stopped them both from working, so unplug one and try it.

Chris H

and the megane has the smaller inlet ports that are centred and is a far superior head to the 1.8 and willy lumps.

Also runs milder cams than the 1.8 and runs sfi and still puts out better power than the williams. best lump of the lot.

Plastic cam cover to, weight saving :P

Andyvalver
03-12-2005, 17:35
So i was right? :? Its not a volvo lump? Just a willy bottom end with slightly different head?

didnt they bring the megane version out in 1996/1997 and had to alter it aswell due to emissions being stricter etc

Chris H

yes andy its not a volvo lump, only the 2l n series were volvo lumps, more safranes got them than anything else.

meggy lump arrived in 96 and was the same pretty much until the IDE came in.

Now that was a mistake.

I think i got banned off cliosport about 4/5 times.

Either for calling stupid people stupid, proving a mod wrong or actually saying the clio is not the best car ever.

So headwork on a F7R 710 and cams will have much better gains compared with on a F7R 700?

I asume working on a meggy head is more fun than a willy one as there is more room to play with porting and the valve seats?

i hate working on the 2.0 IDE engines god there shit, always having idle problems, and cutting out going into limp home mode! and the siemans sirus 35 computers lol another pile of poo

Chris H

gains are better as the megane casting is pretty bad around the bowl area, Gains are normally quite good.

Ports are smaller but the bowl area is larger so its easier in some respects.

Jimbob
03-12-2005, 18:19
I stand corrected! Pretty sure Renault did use the 5 cylinder - the 1 cylinder (!) Volvo lump for something though, maybe it was the Laguna??

Oh well, I laughed when I went back to the thread and it was locked!

Chris H

which bit of the volvo lump used in the rens was the N series did you not get jimbob?

Jimbob

mk1 lagunas used the volvo lump

Chris H
03-12-2005, 18:34
lagunas, safrane's and the espace used the N series.

Jimbob
03-12-2005, 18:37
That would explain it. My bro had a 2L S laguna which used that lump. Think thats why I thought the Meggy used it as it put out similar power.

Chris H
03-12-2005, 18:50
N series is 140bhp the F7 is 150bhp+

to be fair it's not Clio Sports fault, it's just inhabited by muppets that have no interest in cars and would rather talk about each others cocks... you all know who I mean without having to go into great deal as they have been ruining the place for ages imo. still, they have their own site to chat about bumming each other, yet still feel it necessary to post shit into off topic/general spam to aquire some celebrity like status from the other geeks and followers... very sad, but what can you do really? ban them and all the groupies start banding together calling for a revolt... thinking about it this is probably one of the reason the rules and regs are so anal over there, but i think i can finally understand why...
