If it fails, it will just go back to how it was before :)

Well Bullcrusher did mine mate, and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to do yours. He charges 30 quid though, which some say is extortionate, but others have paid more.

Yeah, he told me about the time you introduced yourself to him in a drunken mess :P

Nothing wrong with being pissed all the time :P
mine is welded, done 3 trackdays and a years abuse, still 100% play-less
Im spannered, but i am totally for welding the steeering rack. It will have no adverse affects on the car. I have had mine done for approx 1 year now. Make surew you fit back the rubber ocver or you'll get a vibration noise up the rack.
Its as safe as house. The worst that could ever happen is the jpint braking and you g oback to a flappy steering column. It shouldnbt happen though f its done correctly.
All the best drunken GFeoff.
You know i'm still not sure if theres anyhting wrong with mine! can't tell if the slight play I have is normal...
Still wouldn't mind getting it checked out though, want it to be spot on :D
Easy to check......................
Open your window and with engine running (so power steering works) put your hand on drivers wheel and turn steering wheel, both should move at the same time, if theres a delay between moving steering wheel and road wheel moving your columns worn.
I swear mien is, you can move the wheel quickley about 2" from side to side when you are going dsown the road and the car don't move from side to side, but it passed its mot only a few weeks ago, so it can't be that bad...still think i'll get it welded :?

mine is exactly the same, bloody pain when ya got an uneven road, tends to wonder around a bit when i put me foot down

That sounds similar actually to mine, although I'll do the hand test when she gets back...
WINSTON!!!..........
Mine was welded up last night cos it had loads of play in the steering and the difference is unbelievable!! It's like a go-kart now!! Cheers for sorting that out for us Gaz..... :)
I shimmed up gentle bens.
Best thing is get it out, get it on a press to close it up then weld it.
