anyone know where i could get a Mocal one cheap ?

do any of the ones on Ebay have any internal baffling ?

also, most have 2 connectors on the top, is one an inlet and one an outlet ?

Most available 'catch tanks' are practically useless.

Like you say, an in and and out.

What you need is an in, with a baffle, an exit for cleaner vapours at the top, and a drain on the bottom to return the oil to the sump.

A box with 2 holes is a waste of time.

yea just as i thought Ben, all these ones on Ebay might look nice but wont actually do anything at all

yeah but its only there for one thing, to catch oil

doesn't need to be baffled

i have one fitted and as you said before is nice but useless.Mine is made by Greedy and has one input and one output. At the out put i have fit a little filter but when im going with full throttle then oil goes out of the filter and makes engine bay a mess
I think the only way to make something that works, you have to make a custom one.

Are you sure?

In most cases it is best used to seperate oil/water in the vapours and return oil to the sump, and reduce oil in the intake this reducing octance drop which renaults are really bad for. Having no breather system hooked up isnt great on these engines with tiny breather area as it is.

LOL at you two

Didn't relaise they returned oil to the sump, but then i really really can't see a clio dumping out litres and litres of oil.....not like tuned up jap pieces of tin

we need something for the powersteering fluid lads....

PMSL @ northy. IIRC didn't Mark have a "catch tank" for his PAS fluid?

As I understood it catch tanks literally did just catch the oil. Did a evo meet recently up at Ladybower, and whilst some of us were chatting Matt (of white 106 Rallye) took a lad out for a blast. When he got back it was smoking ilke hell.

Turns out it was oil pissing out of his breather filter. I just thought a catch tank caught that instead?

It dfoes, but some fancy ones return the oil to the sump

the thing with the ones on Ebay though, they have an inlet and an outlet, usually very close to each other, and nothing at all inside to help the oil in the air condense and drop down into the tank, surely it will just go in and come straight out the other one

the pink car runs a twin entry Mocal unit (same as the k-tec one) it has a feed off the rocker cover and the gear box

last time out on track (after a full oil service on engine AND box) there was around 1L of oil in there by the end of the session (empty at start!!)

no breather as the mocal unit has a one way valve in the cap

Lunner

Thats ALOT of oil, but suppose it is a race engine

Fred

yeah but i did overfill it slightly, it seems to blow oil out

maybe 1l was an overestimate from me, its been a while since i've seen the car

there's a 3rd mark thats been put onto the dipstick, but when i changed oil i ignored it and just filled it up fully

after the session the oil level was bang on the 3rd mark

i think its the rpm of the engine that causes it
