Okay heres tonights work, after doing diddle squat for couple of weeks! figured it was time to have the head off!! so heres how it went, suprisingly well actually!!only one stopping point n thats gonna get sorted when am back from sheffield at the weekend!!

rusty, nasty manifold, thats gettin scrubbed up and painted black!!

now heres my valves, all sixteen of the bad boys!! not sure why all but one pot is coated in soot? any ideas people?!!!!!

next stage is to strip the head n get it to winston for a rebuild n maybe a bit of portin n polishin!!!!

that will be clean cos of the shot head gasket mate, just the same reason why your 2 pistons are clean and the others arent cos the fuel has cleaned them

can i clean the rest like that?! or whats the best way clean it all up?!

best way to clean is carbostrip......but its erm.......toxic as anything and dissolves any carbon based stuff.....i.e. YOU and ME.

but if you jsut want to clean it, scrubbing with lots of solvent, degreaser, stiff brush will get you near ish.

But you will have to get the head ground flat again.
And i say ground, because skimming is crap.

nice pics mate, love lookin at stuff like this, very interesting

while you have the head off, id take the stat housing off and grease up all the bolts with copper grease, will make it easier if you ever need to change the stat

Looks good mate, get a product called Satin black from tweeks to do the manifold in, its a heat proof paint, kinda same effect as wraspping it, but alot easier, so they do a chrome finihs paint for manifolds too, but dont;' think that stops as much heat
