View Full Version : Sunroof, most probably FAO Northy
I need to fix a leaky sunroof without siliconing the damn thing shut. Could you mail me instructions or something?

Easy. You need to try a few things though IMO.
First off, open the sunroof and remove the seal that the glass sits on when it's shut.
Clean this up using lots and lots of WD40. Give it a reet good soaking. Then dry it off and rub some vaseline in to it. Fit it back again and leave a smear of vaseline on the top where the glass sits. This is what fixed mine and it's the absolute last thing I tried!
If it isn't then then you need to remove the seal inside the car that sits round the hole in the headlining. Then you should be able to pull the lining down enough to get a socket wrench in and undo all 16(?) bolts. Once undone you can lift the whole sunroof out. Clean up the roof and the seal that sits in the plastic frame, and I'd put a thin bead of clear silicon sealant round it. Then put it all back.
sure kel.
give me a ring and i'll help ya.

I once did all that for my ex-girlfriends clio too, but the damn thing kept leaking!!! I also removed the handle and re-positioned it on the spindle so the closed position was f-ing tight!!
Aparently it was the glass that had warped slightly, so there was a small gap between glass and top rubber seal.
There is a guide/article ont he home page iirc, i think i saw a link there at some point

heehee there is a link - but no info
big metal plate and welder or a good bonding blue for metals lol, will never leak!
Oops - not got round to fixing the sunroof yet LOL
Will be doing it shortly so if the methods above don't work expect a call Northy :)
i'd take the full thing out kell. Remove the original seal. Reseal with silcone sealer and wipe excess away with white spirits.
Removing the headling is the best way to ensure it all goes well, but you could pull the headlining down locally to remove the bolts.

Mine leaked again the other day. Oddly all I did to fix it was wind the roof back and forward. :?
did mine a year ago - never leaked since. :D
i did mine two months ago, been in the garage since.............
Whats a sunroof?
well basically its a thing that we all want rid of but are two scared of what it'll do to our chassis rigidity so we got this guinea pig right and he sent his car to................

12 months, though I reckon if I wrapped it round a lamp post it might not be that straightforward!!
cool, i'll go find a clio with a sunroof and twisted subframe/chassie for £100, take it to twisted, remove sunroof. Leave, come back 1 wk later get him to give me the £1500 back that i paid for the car in the 1st place :D

Renault sell a better designed seal that seals properly, its a lot beefier and seals perfect. Was expensive tho :(

i took the s/roof out and sealed between the metal and the black frame of the s/roof . was the shittest job i ever done..... never again id rather do an engine conversion
rough diagram here : http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a341/justin_2k5/roof.jpg
aahhhhhh
i never thought about that part to be honest.......
thats the bit that leaks brun....lol
i thought it would be leaking from the rubber seal to the glass, not the plastic frame to the roof

when i took mine out the ''seal'' was erm.... a bit perished lol. it doesnt look very substantial at all. any creases and you got a leak. unfornuatly mine is quite creased
so there is a seal under that plastic frame then ?

Nope.. Had this since 2004!
(Had a Williams 3 for a few months before that..)
Williams 3 Sunroof didn't leak - 1.2's did, tho.. (until I sealed it)
