After deciding to keep the valver and set about repairing my knackered head gasket myself i decided it was time to crack on!!! theres only so long i can last without that car....and more to the point my mates laguna am runnin runs out of MOT in march n theres not a hope of it passin!!! so the race is on!!!

Last night i tidied up the garage and rolled my baby in, tucked her up for the night and got myself mentally prepared for basically ripping her apart with nothing but a basic knowledge of cars and my trusty haynes manual!!

U'll have to excuse me pa, he's always in the soddin way!!

So after work today i got in and decided i'd have a bash at removing the bonnet n stuff........so heres how i got on!!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB100088.jpg

Heres the untouched and highly knackered motor as it was at bout half seven!!!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140093.jpg

ripped out battery and all the air kit and filter stuff to begin.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140090.jpg

then went....well everything basically!!! front offside wing, front bumper, bonnet, offside headlight and indicator, fan assembly, radiator, inginition leads, spark plugs, plastic covers and rocker cover!!!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140091.jpg

can finally see whats going on in there!!! my cam belt looks pucker but the aux drive belt is kippered!!avin a new one of them i think!!!! mite get vernier pulleys n all...mmmm...shiny!!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140092.jpg

i've never seen inside an engine first hand before, lovin it!!!and the fact i got there myself brings a tear to my eye....no wait thats just fumes...cough cough!!!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140097.jpg

trusty old rocker cover.....needs a clean, strip and sand blast before being repowder coated blue!!! spot the old gasket in pieces in thje corner of the pic!!!

i now have a room in the garage full of parts of clio, so if it all goes pete tong its garage sale!!!haha!!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140096.jpg

note the flippin inlet manifold of a 19 16v?! useless to me!!!damn ebay at times!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140095.jpg

clio guts spilt across the table!!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140099.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/coopahstar/The%20Restoration/PB140098.jpg

and more bits....scary stuff, i gotta put all this back again!!!!!oh poo!!!

so thats it so far, not bad for one evenings work i dont think!!!

i got lots of plans on what i want doing but am open to any suggestions on what you would do!!!if u were me like, cuz i want all the help i can get to get this baby running proper pucker!! i got a budget for the engine of around a grand, so how would you spend it?? answers on a postcard to the following address.......or just post a reply!!!hehe!

oh and that grand doesnt include the water pump or ps pump i already got!!! but EVERYTHING else, gasket, the lot!!

Am happy with my progress so far, but stickly bits comin up, manifolds n injectors n stuff, so i'll keep this thread updated as i go along!!

Bloody hell man you work quick for a novice!! Good to see you got straight down to it, the best way IMO.

I was just wondering though, if its only the headgasket thats gone, why you took so much of the other body parts off it? Wings and stuff. Not knocking your efforts, just curious?

Unless of course they need replacing as you tart up ya mota.

Great work though, keep it up...and keep them pics coming. Very useful for others in future dire straits!

to be honest i wasnt sure exactly what i needed to take off so like u said i got stuck in. then as i went along i figured i'd take a load off so i could clean it up before puttiin it back, like re coating the covers n stuff, get rid of that crappy gold colour!!! also stops me scratchin me paintwork when am working in the tight garage...tools plus valver plus anger at stuck bolt equals no paint left on wing!!!!

Ah ha!! That be the reson then. A fair point i suppose. I know what its like to work in a confined space. I could barely swing a cat in mine when i removed the engine.

Gets the old man worked up a treat too when theres me, him, the car, tools building up all over the place....

A PRESSURE POT if you will!!!

May as well get that rust sorted out on the front of the subframe whilst you have it all out.

if uv got a grand to spend on ur engine....may i suggest u buy a 2.0 and stick that in as opposed to repairing ur valver lump. u then have a spare engine u can fuk about with to ur hearts content without having to get it done cos u need the car.

just a suggestion hehe

good effort so far tho

Wish I had that sort of room.

I've had to remove my 16v engine and Williams engine out of the cars at the top of the drive and take them down to the garage on the hoist (not the easiest, the drive is all cracked and the hoist kept on getting stuck).

I've barely got any room in the garage and now have bits of engine everywhere, plus a gearbox, drive shafts, rad etc.

I'll be glad when I've finished!
