I would have really loved to have done the work myself but unfortunately i have been unable to find a home with a garage to allow me to do it.and i went through a period of not being able to decide on whether i wanted a standard williams or a modified one.ive made my mind up and have decided to let reno do the work.
in the UK and through contacts on the forum there is an abundance of talent for the Williams however I have yet to meet 1 williams owner here in Ireland and a decent mechanic at that.

I know the feeling mate. I knew mine wouldn't pass the MOT with a knackered gearbox and non-existant speedo. My only option was to SORN it for now coming up to 9 months!!!

But with my relocation happening in 2 weeks, there was no way I was ever gonna sell. Had to bite the bullet and took the decision to completely re-build...and this weekend I have to endure a 5hr train ride to go and collect her from the garage where I began work on it almost 3 months ago...

Can't wait to finally get it on the road, and ofcourse see what breaks next!!!

hope all goes well for you.
I will be relocating just the car this christmas and have a 2000km journey to take, just south of rome.
the way i look at it,you forgive an old car especially if you love it,but you never forgive a new one if it breaks

Still begs the question. Why Renault? IME they're chimps in overalls, trained to change oil and water. Are there no worthwhile garages closeby?

There are many reasons to choose a main dealer. They are qualified mechanics and have access to all the relevant data and parts in the one shop.It just makes life easy for those of us that have not got the resources or time to do it ourselves.
yes you pay the price however you have the peace of mind that goes with it.
Local specilaist garages are rare in my parts. When I had my 5GTT and needed work done on it,any garages I brought it too shat themselves and were reluctant to look after it.I ended up bringing it to a main dealer and they looked after it.This has been my experience to date.

If you can't do it yourself or find a good garage then I suppose you haven't got much choice. But my - and I think alot of people's - experience with Renault dealers is that they know little and charge alot.
My personal experiences with them have been ordering a right-hand driveshaft and getting a left-hand one, and being told by an alarm specialist that my standard alarm wasn't standard - even though there's a chapter on it in the owners handbook. I think it's safe to say that many of these Renault 'specialists' know sod all about any of their cars over five years old.
With a Haynes manual and a Dialogys CD I've saved at least £1000 working on my R5 and Clio. Yeah I've had to work in the snow sometimes but knowing that I've done the job properly was worth it.

It's your call of course, but if all you need is a simple service (oil change etc.) then I really can't see the point in paying a ridiculous price for Renault to do it. It's not like you get magic Clio oil. Mechanically there's nothing special about Williams or valvers - certainly nothing that warrants paying Renault's stupid prices for.

But like I said each to their own. That's just my personal opinion
