depends on what parts are damaged.

If it is just a strip down and rebuild only replacing bearings then this should be pretty cheap.

I dropped mine off at a place called Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead, the full rebuild, inc all bearings and seals, plus a sand blast and paint was only £200

Gave them £250 though...ain't I nice..

yeah depends on what needs replacing as to cost tbh.

i had 1 refurbed a couple years ago..was £400 .....ex craggy willy 2 box tho an it needed quite a few parts machining cos they no longer avaliable

only fukkin lasted bout 9 months too....i was robbed lol.needless to say.............i havent had another box refurbed since, i just buy 2nd hand ones, usually evry 6 months or so hehe

My first box lasted from new about 5 years.

Then a rebuild at Hardy's (changed the input shaft bearing) about 2 years ago.

Recently had another rebuild, but this time insisted to change every bearing and give a full clean out. Now put it back in with fully synthetic oil, plus a portion of the Slick 50 additive stuff. So hopefully may get a longer life this time round.

As I say, as long as you can provide the place with the box, it ain't hard stripping and re-building. Just the cost of the bearings and labour. Anything more than £300 is having a laugh.

At these prices it's not much more for a brand new box with 1yr warranty!

how do you know when you need a new gear box?

Plattsy
03-11-2005, 23:54
well mine crunches when going into gears sometimes and doesnt like staying in 2nd gear at all unless i hold it there
Others usually say that there gearbox whines and doesnt let them select gears properly.

well sometimes when i put it in neutral in a traffic jam or something, i go to put it back in 1st and it wont go in, i have to lift the clutch up and put it back down again, this a bad thing?

might just be the gear selector thingy not actualy the box????

mine started whinin then constantly crunhcin then it kept getin stuck in gear! n sumtimes wen in reverse it wo go bk then jolt 4wards! :?

cd be harder rebulding a box then u think....i got the gear box manual sumwhere wiv all the parts u need n how 2 do it etc....i remember it lukd scary!

I'm gonna either get a willy box and rebuild it for my new engine, or rebuild my RSi one, can't be that hard, as long as you keep everything in order

im not sure on this as iv never rebuilt 1, but apparently theres a kinda spring clip that needs holding in place as u put the casing on, which is really tricky an needs a spesh tool...like i say im not 10% on this as iv never rebuilt 1......clowo will b best man to answer that.
