View Full Version : Differences between 16v box and Willy.
Hi guys, im just about to post up on ebay my old Willy box, but wanted to know the differences between this and a 16v box. Is it not shorter ratios?
Any help/advice very much welcomed.
Also any tips on what i should be saying would be good. Not a big ebayer!
Thanks
apparently the Willy has a taller 5th... I have a valver box in mine and top end is identical to a Willy boxed car though... so IMO there is no difference.
Stronger gears?? Maybe they were case hardened or something for the extra power N' torque.
I thought final drive ratio was different too?
I always thought they had lower ratios. Obviously wrong. Anyway its up now, so we'll see what happens. If i find out there are differences before the end of the auction i'll add it to the ad.
Thanks for your responces.
from everythin i found out wen i had a new gear box.....iirc as jesus ses 5th is taller , and the box is stronger than the valver box...not sure wot parts though!

I was reading on Cliosport that Renault have redesigned the diff, it's not held in by a circlip anymore, but by a bolted in metal plate.
Can anybody confirm this?
Yep. I'll confirm this. The JC5 has the diff bolted. The JB3 as found on the valver and R5GTT has the crappy circlip

Is it just the JC5 that has the diff bolted then?

the valver 5th gear is def shorter...
the bearings are stronger/better iirc, also the gears are not all held by circlips like the JB3 boxs, there are heated up and press fitted , cant say on ratios never looked into it
Do you thinkit would be ok to put this into the ebay speil?
Would you take £50??????
Got quite a few mashed willy boxes now :P
I also have some pics of the inside of a williams box if anyones interested
