What' the Renault recommended interval for this? And what's the common sense interval, if you know what I mean?!

My car's done 34,000 miles in two and a half years since it was last done. I'm thinking it should be done again soon?

Great!

Before I get someone else to do it and then you all tell me I've paid way too much, how much should I be looking at?!

it's 70k for the first one and every 40k after that. I pay £150-200 depending on what i'm having done, that also includes a full service...

shouldn't be a problem, Winston can do all these jobs with his eyes closed, in the dark, in the rain with nothing but a paper cup, a toothpick and a bag of Quavers... he's A-Team trained

Also good practice to change the pulley and tensioners too, not just the belt.

If you buy the kit from Reno (about £80) it comes complete with these bits.

Aye, will do. Cheers mate

i found a good deal on cambelts the other day...

Ktec... they'll supply and fit an uprated cambelt (worth 40quid) for 137quid plus vat... not bad eh! worth getting the pulleys done aswell mind you.

Don't think you can get to the bottom pully to change it without the engine being out.

Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Anders

Anything at that side of the engine is a bitch to change....

I whip its heart out everytime I need to do something like that, but then you get sucked in to changing other bis too!!! Just makes things a lot easier and you know you are doing things properly and getting things lined up right.

I know not always possible, but everything that seemed to have gone wrong with me, has been pretty major so far!! Gearbox mainly..crap thing

Yep, gearbox has gone on mine too. But I'm using the opportunity to drop a Williams lump in. Haven't got the gearbox yet though.

I used the opportunity to renew everything and I mean everything -

Uprated clutch
new clutch& speedo cable
New engine mounts
New radiator, and full silicone hose set (samcosport)
Low temp thermo and sensor
New grooved and drilled brakes all round with Mintex pads
New front and rear shockers
New PAS pump and full pipe set
New water pump
New oil pump
New cambelt and pulleys & tensioners
New aux belt
New alternator & battery
New plugs, dizzy cap and magnecor leads
Wheel arch refurb and full wheel refurb
New studded boots all round too...

phew...now onto the headunit and alarm....

Anders how much did that all cost?? including labour???

Anders
01-11-2005, 18:14
Did it all myself mate. That way I know it is done right and everything I have taken off has been replaced with new, and the bolts cleaned up and re-greased. Even the calipers were stripped, regreased, new seals and painted up.

Has ben a labour of love for the past 3 months. Now, I'm not too sure....

Still got a few finishing touches left to do like reinforcing the inside of the door cards with fibreglass resin to stop the supports falling through.

Must of spent nearly 2-2.5K on it so far...with another 1K left to finish.

Mr Zollo, I got mine done at a specialist opposite teh Manchester main dealer. It was £250-ish all in, including pulleys.

However, Jon's garage can probably do it for a fair whack less.

No worries Winston, would prefer to give my money to a worthy cause :P

If the k-tech price gets the 2live seal of approval, I'll just take it there. Only 20 miles away anyway.

Will get the idler and tensioners done too. Cheers for the help guys 8)

my cars done 99,000 last cambelt change was at 72,000 two years ago.
I went to Renault and they said cambelt changes for the Williams 3 are every 72,000. I'm still a bit puzzled as an EVO review said change it every 30,000???
Does anyone know of a company near Norwich that could replace mine?

Swervin_Mervin
04-11-2005, 18:18
I'd replace at most every 50k.

Zollo
04-11-2005, 19:58
Gonna replace at in a couple of thousand miles. So that'll be 36k. Cheers all 8)
