Couple of questions,

How much are they?

Yes, they are the same.

They're about £70ish ex. VAT Exchange from GSF or Euro Car Parts I think.

No. That's the starter motor. The Williams starter motor is smaller.

Most places on the alternator will be an exchange - they'll charge you something like a £30 surcharge until you give them yours.

Why not go for a competition one?

Saw them in the tweeks catalogue last night

yes but you get more power with a competition one

BHp power not electrical power, although they do do uprated ones

Plattsy

and how much does an uprated one cost? dont want to be throwing money away!

yes but you get more power with a competition one

really? :?

I can't see how an uprated alternator increases BHP at all.. seems a bit random, heh.

would like to know since a new alternator wouldnt go a miss, realised my charge problem, i have a 1.2 clio battery lol, my mates valvers battery is huge in comparison lol.
a competition one might not demand as much from the engine freeing up a bit of power like manual steering conversion does?duno

Yeah teh bearings are freeer moving or something, will have a look, it says int eh tweeks catalugue, means it doesn't put as much stragin on teh engine as Platsey said

platsy, things to check with the alternator:

turn ignition key round so that the 3 warning ligghts are on, just below the temp display on dash...

is the battery light on???

if its not it may be the battery thats broke,... or the dash bulb has gone...

get a multi meter and disconnect all wiring to the alternator, bar the 2 wire socket.. place positive on the main feed screw and negative on an earth anywhere oin the car... select volts on multimeter, and rev engine from the engine bay... look at voltage.. does it increase with revs? if yes then alternator is fine....
change batter then wire up alternator and place multi meter on the battery,.... rev.... does the voltage increase? .. does it increase ridiculously ? ie 20+ volts? could be regulator on the side of the alternator/

i thought my alternator was broke, turned out the battery was fubar.
