I just used the same paint for my rocker cover this week, primer, paint and laquer, not fitted it yet and so not sure if it will flake off!

However when you've put the last coat of paint on, about 15-20 mins later apply the laquer so they can bond together with the paint! Apply 2 coats of laquer and the next day it should come up lovely and shiny! This is supposed to prevent any laquer flaking off, or so i've been told by a bodyshop!

You only laqure over metallic colour, solid colour isn't laqured over.

Rub them down to give them a 'key' then very throughly degrease.

Shoudl have gone to a motor factors, 5 ltrs of thinnners costs me £8.

Plastic prime the bare plastic

Sand with wet wet and dry 1200 grit

Do 3-4 coats of colour

Sand wiht wet 2000 grit wet and dry, till very smooth

Polish wiht G3 cutting compound

Polish wiht normal polish

Either stick in airing cupborad for 48 hours or so or leave out for a good week at room temp for the paint to harden before sanding/polishing. usually woudl be in a drying oven at around 40-50 degrees overnight

With bonnet sand down lightly with 400 grit ali oxide paper, esp where trhe stone chips are you want ti smooth if you run your hand over it, this may involve taking it ot the bare metal in places.

Where this has happened spot prime wiht primer, i use the stuff from teh can for this, several coats, so you can't see the change from paint to metal, then sand smooth wiht the wet 1200 grit papwer as above, untill you can run you hand accross wiht your eyes closed and not tell where its primed.

When you de badge it, fill it in,a nd when you sand it back leave a thin film of filler over the surrounding bonnet, if you sand it back level witht eh bonnet you will notic an outline, think it took me the best part of 10 skims of filler to get it perfect.

Also get some high build primer to priem the filler with

Have you tried the paint to see if its a correct match as I've tried the diferent combination of paint at Halfords and none of them match the colour of the car.

I have had 2 lots of paint mixed up for me by Halfrauds supposedly 449 from there computer and both have been miles out. They even had the correct bloody code - numpties

There are different variuations of 449, wiht a number after them, halfords can mix these variations but only do so if you instruct them to apparently

not a very good bodyshop, you apply laquer to non-dry basecoat and it will move. you'll literally see a moving effect underneath it, looks proper poop, let the basecoat go off completely , so you can touch it, then laquer
