Up to £2k to play with. Got to be a daily drive - can't be arsed with noisy 'boys toys' cars (because i've owned them before lol) so not a 106 rallye or a valver or anything like that.

Just need some ideas, gotta be nippy though nothing slow or anything my mum might buy (her last 3 cars as an idea have been Primera eGT, Pug 206 GTi and now her Audi a4 1.8t quattro). Oh, gotta be reliable too.

I've been driving it all this week and last week now Matt and I'm really growing to like it. Especially now it's got proper tyres on.

Still not really pushed it but it seems to handle rather well. Not Clio territory but it's still got a hell of a lot of feedback for a more modern car.

Corsa with a 2.0 red top/turbo under the bonnet? Same goes for a Tigra.
Golf TDI
Lexus GS/LS etc.
Saab 9000

Yeah, I imagine it's a lot like the 306, which was a lovely car to drive. Can't really stretch to the VTS though, so I'm looking at the VTR. It'll be quite slow I think, but it'll be cheap to run. 8)

The 1.8 VTR would be your best bet. Supposed to be a good lump. I had a 1.6 5dr and whilst it was great for me at the time it would be lacking a bit in urge now I think, so I'd avoid the later VTRs.

I was thinking about this last night re: 306/Xsara and I tihnk what shades the Xsara for me is the cabin. Much nicer place to be than the far more cheap feeling 306, and I prefer the seating position. I also like dark interiors on more cruisy cars as it's less of a strain when driving at night.

Zollo

Yeah, it'll be a 1.8 VTR, as they're older and cheaper! I prefer the old shape Xsaras anyway.

Will be interesting to compare the 306/Xsara. That's if the right one comes up cheap enough...

What you looking at in terms of price?

Zollo

About a grand, no more than 1500. Can hopefully get a decent mileage '98 VTR for £1200...but not in that yellow colour :?

I'd personally go for a 5 turbo or Escort RST. Plenty of power to be extracted fairly cheaply. Escort would be more reliable then a 5 tho.

Escort and Fiesta turbos are reliable. I had a Escort running 195bhp and can count the amount of problems I had in 3yrs on one hand.

Parts are also readily available and fairly cheap.

I'm looking for a last of line H plate escort at the moment, got a R plate astra for work now so can have a turbo running silly power for the weekends. Everyone to there own though.
