I went for a cruise last night round Barnsley and I decided I wasn't gona race anybody, so my car was full fat (Full interior and install). There was also my mate in the car with me.

Anyway I drove down harbour hills and there was a couple of cars in the middle lane at the traffic lights so naturally I went in the outside lane. Anyway noticed that the cars there were a done up Impreza and this Starlet. I've heard that the Starlet wanted a race with me before and he gave me some dumpvalve so I guessed it was on.

Went to the next set of lights and sat there but he went behind me instead of in the left lane which was weird. Anyway I booted it off the lights, and through 1st and 2nd he kept up, then 3rd I pulled away dead easy. The road curves to the left and I kept my foot in it but he seemed to slow down loads, not sure why though. He then proceeded to me as I was following another car doing the speed limit revving his engine lol.

Will be a different story if you race my Glanza mate.

Sounds dodgy, he kept slowing down and went behind you? Maybe he wasnt really up to it.

Ah yes, but he didn't have his coilovers fitted, or decent rubber, or his intercooler, or.......

Sitting at some traffic lights revving his engine so I could hear the dumpvalve usually means they want to go for it. The WRX came up the side of me, he launched quite hard aswell but I hammered em both lol dont think the WRX was tryin, tho my car did feel quite quick that nite.

Hmm i love glanza but they aint the quickest from what i've seen!

My mate has a 179bhp one that really doesnt feel that quick....

Martin

This is a 180 bhp ish one Si of cliosport

Tom, from the spec its very unlikely he had 180bhp, plus just bolting things on doesnt always make things faster, if not tuned properly it can make things worse!

No one can deny my speeds on the straight, goes good for a 1.3

Tke the piss all u like lads, but once I get a few more tweaks done, you better watch out on the next trackday.

clowo16v, if you have any doubts, come race me, I dont mind.

I cant comment on strip times, never done it, but im sure a time in the 14's is pretty good.

Well from past comments on here it mate it seems like it. I know its not a Clio, but I thought peeps might still be welcome. **** it who cares.

I will unveil the motor once my tweaking is done.

hmm, i'd be suspect of the claim of 179bhp then pal, Gee was getting passed on the track, but your comparing it against a Clio and on the corners the Clio will win everytime in standard trim... and most of the Clio's there were not in standard trim. The Clio can carry a shed load more speed through the bends, but make no mistake, on the way back we came accross a 182... which we duly left in our wake with a load of extra weight... Gee was on the 182 easily just playing with him... that's with 160bhp... i've seen this car go on the straights and it would beat a std or mildly tuned Willy. By the way, this was all starting at motorway speeds... so not bad at all for a ickle 1.3, myself and mr live were WELL impressed!

Gee, don't worry about it, think peeps are just trying to get a rise out of you, only having a laugh, so take it with a pinch of salt and have the last laugh when you line up next to them ;)

19-10-2005, 11:12
Yeh but Gee your car is tuned and mines not. He came on MSN and said he thought he'd beat me but mine was a fair bit quicker. His was RR'd and made 125bhp at the wheels so its been tuned a fair bit.

125ATW is only about 150ish at the fly though, so not really that impressive.

clowo16v
19-10-2005, 11:23
Yeh but his weighed **** all compared to mine lol. Gona have a blast with him this weekend down the local bypass. Running mine fully stripped though as his is. Cant see him getting anywhere close tbh mine flys in 3rd and 4th.

Gee's is deffo a quick one, if it's as fast as his beware!

clowo16v
19-10-2005, 12:38
Nah 1.8 16v. Motor is all standard apart from the front fog light is removed and a cold air feed is in its place to the standard airbox, which still has the paper filter lol. Other than that its just got a Magnex & de-cat and my special gearbox lol which knocked 0.5 seconds off my 1/4 mile times lol.

aaah, the gearbox king eh? well, i have something in my basement that (if possible) i'd like you to look at... pretty sure it's a 1.9d box, but whatever it is 2nd gear is fooked... would like to use that box again though now I have the power... 115 in 3rd sounds liks fun... mind you, so does 150+ in 4th :D

clowo16v
19-10-2005, 14:40
They're not too bad for rebuilds as long as the cases are OK though if you want the standard diesel ratios by the time its done its probably cheaper to buy a complete box. I get gearboxes for 30-40 quid a go 2nd hand.

Yeah.........advice taken Jesus, maybe things come across incorrect on forum boards! lol!

Yup, I'll let my turbo do the talking.

J o n
19-10-2005, 18:45
you got the coilovers and wheels on yet then lad? can see this being a right handful at the next trackday... also depends how crazy you go on it as well! Turbo the size of Alaska should do it!

GeeUK
19-10-2005, 19:05
Yeah, got coilovers and wheels on, alighnment is out at the moment and exhaust scrapes and hits everything, bit noisey at the moment! Bit bumpy too, they aint setup yet, just thrown them on.

Will get some pic's up at the moment. I am really tempted to go for a bigger turbo, manifold, oil,+water lines but I should slow down with my spending.

pretty sure standard for standard a glanza and a valver would be a good close race

You wont find many around, as they are rarer than you get laid.

Sure its not the 1.3 SR you have been racing

clowo16v
21-10-2005, 22:25
LOL you're right there m8 they're not as common as Imprezas though, but thats because you cant fit 6 pissed up people in and get more money bringing them back from town on a night lol.

Hmm, Doubt there are loads of Glanza's, GT Turbos maybe yeah,

Plattsy
22-10-2005, 03:30
theres a few of both, more gt turbos and srs than glanzas tho, not bein funny but whats the difference between a glanza and gt turbo?
I kno it was a gt turbo i raced on a r plate and then another turbod one on a g plate.
Clowo get yourself down to cortonwood retail park on sunday night at about 8ish, theres a big cruise which ill be at and the starlets are going to be at aswell!

GeeUK
22-10-2005, 09:57
Plattsy, the Glanza is the face lift model from the GT, you will see them on M/N plates. The weigh a little more, but run the CT9B turbo rather than the CT9A. The B has an extra blade for faster spooling.

No point racing SR's, the are 1.3 N/A mate, the Glanza looks like the SR from the front and back a little.

Taking some pic's l8r today, so look out in the media section if your interested.

my mate has an early 97 P plate glanza V.

Its a nice car - he has a cat back exhaust but other than that its standard! Its quick, but slow compared to my hybrid (and a valver would prob beat it just IMO!)

Nice and comfy inside, good build quality, but just dont see the big deal about them!

"wow, ive got a TURBO! i must be a big boy now!!!!" LOL

N/A power all the way!! 2.0l clio so much more responsive, handles far far better and dont look like a modified micra from the back!!

VIPERONE
22-10-2005, 11:34
or wow ive got a turbo, i'll rev and get my dump valve going

Plattsy
22-10-2005, 14:08
yeh i kno what ya mean now ya posted pics, same as the sr and newer ones at back but a little different from the front.
So is it still a starlet or is glanza the jap name like a corsa is a nova in spain lol.
I think there nice little cars and would benefit a big ass turbo engine lol. like a celica 1.8 or something silly lol. id av one, whats insurance like on em?

ben_j
22-10-2005, 18:49
theyre all jap imports. gt is just the older name the newer curvy ones are called glanza's thats it basically. think theyre ins group 8 too so not bad!

clowo16v
24-10-2005, 17:45
Insurance is cheaper when standard but when modified its well expensive. Think it was £200 cheaper on a Glanza for me than on the Valver, but theres no point as standard vs standard the Valver is faster.

Never drove a standard GT so cant say, but Ive had a ride in a valver before I got my Glanza and wasnt impressed.

ben_j
24-10-2005, 18:19
yea i think standard for standard the glanza would be quicker. at least before 100mph

Plattsy
24-10-2005, 18:30
iirc arent they 145bhp standard and do 0-60 in just over 6seconds? valvers are 137bhp and do it in 7.7

Martin
24-10-2005, 18:44
Nope I think they are 130 bhp?

ben_j
24-10-2005, 19:09
133bhp and weigh 850 for a gt and 900 i think for a glanza. plus they have the torque of a turbo

VIPERONE
24-10-2005, 20:45
a test would be to put 200kg of weight in a williams and a glanza then race.lol..

ben_j
24-10-2005, 20:56
a? how is that a test? how random... thats like saying lets put tow bars on both with caravans and race them because that would be a test... ???? HOW?

VIPERONE
24-10-2005, 21:38
well I like the old clarkson tests... it would no doubt show how torqueless the glanza engine is.. or maybe not... random yes...

ben_j
24-10-2005, 22:12
lol... there's me thinking i was missing something

gladfully u were just being random

clowo16v
25-10-2005, 17:48
I had a test drive in a GT when I thought the engine had blown in the Valver as I was gonna sell it and buy one and no way was it as fast as the Valver in a straight line and it didnt handle very well compared.

See ya

different kinda power tho. they dont feel fast but they are. and no they are meant to have terrible handing standard! lol

25-10-2005, 19:54
beat a Glanza few times quarter mile and i was running 15.5's so they aint that quick , 1.3 at the end of the day  also test drove one from local importer and wasn't impressed at all . my old vtr felt quicker , thats what ran 15.5 15.6's .

GeeUK
25-10-2005, 20:07

He didn't say if his VTR was modified or not. I know a guy who used to race his at York that ran 15s but he'd spent a fortune on the engine.
