My mate has just bought one, and - understandably - fancies his chances. How do you guys reckon I'll fair? Anyone (who isn't running cams) had any run-ins with these?

Hopefully will have results in a week or so.......

yeah, only had a run in with the one that comes on the peaks run... pretty quick, has the legs on a std Willy, but only just... round the bends they are utter crap tho, on a track they would be laps behind.

hm..... had a couple doos with these...they not all that quick, std willy shud be at least level on the straights, and will pull away thru the twistys

would it make a difference if it was a Liner tho? still got left for dead on track  (Skylines that is, no Golfs there  )

Yeah, it's a Golf. Had a ride in it today, and I must say I was well impressed. Lovely interior on 'em. Sound good too. Wasn't amazingly quick though...reckon I can stay with him up to about 100. After that he'd muller me though, as it was pulling really well past 110.

Should be interesting...just gotta do a few things to the Willy first....

I've chased a R32 around the peaks on one of our runs and have to say it is pretty good round the corners with only it's relatively high weight preventing it from being quite as quick as a willy.... Had a doo with it in my 14.7 williams as we were level(ish) all the way past 110.

They are pretty quick, though there shouldn't be much difference upto 100mph. Over 100mph they'll probably pull away quite easily as high speed cruising is what they were designed for.

See ya

Matt

Mmmm, think I'm gonna have to start taking some interior out and run my tank dry :P

Reckon I'm gonna just about keep with him until 100, then I'll be eating VeeDub dust

Thats a lot of money for a turbo kit.
Get a bike for a few grand and then take him on

LOL - matt takes to weight reduction like a duck to water!

Zollo

No weight reduction needed, that was running full interior. Just the spare wheel out.

I wasn't two-up like him, but I reckon I did pretty well all the same. That was starting off in second at around 40mph, all the way to...well...quite fast. That last little burst I had was the top-end of fourth

Nice vid...tuned williams would have one easy. :)

That makes no sense.
Thats like saying " Yeah, 205 GTI's are quick, but a tuned MG ZR would destroy it"

Why compare a standard car and a tuned car ?
Any if people on here think a Willy will take an R32 then they are even more blinkered than i thought....

Zollo
08-11-2005, 00:01
I suppose he was two-up, but there's no getting away from the fact that, from 40mph, he didn't pull away until 110mph. Seemed to piss off as soon as I changed to fifth though :(

Look buddy, std vs modified when comparing a 4WD 3.2 6 cyl car is more than fair, if the Clio was a 2.0 turbo then your point may be valid, but as the Golf R32 is supposed to be miles faster on paper then what's the problem?
Why would that make people blinkered either? Unless they have cams and the works and claim it's standard then that makes no sense, we know a std Willy isn't faster... but no one said it was... (although for the record my NON STANDARD Williams would pish on one 8) )

Haha! Beat him this time  . And he didn't have a passenger this time.

Started off right behind him at a set of traffic lights. Both pulled away quick, but no crazy launches, and by 100mph I was ahead (so he was in my blind spot) :P

Only difference on my car since our last comparison is a Hill Power chip and Pipercross panel filter.
