Just looking for a new head unit as soon as i get my next toy sorted...

Really not keen on any of the head units out at tho mo. i used to have an sony CDX jobbie which i liked quite a bit although it was lacking in bass and a bit keen on the treble... :!:

Anyhoo, im quite into my home entertainemnt stuff and ive been looking at the nakamichi CD-400, read quite a few good reviews and just wondered if anyone had seen one in action etc??

Cheers, Bri.

I had a Nakamichi headunit a couple of years ago. Look lovely and amazing CD quality, but the tuner in it was absolutely shit. Depends what you listen to most I spose.

I've had a Nakamichi for the past 5 years, and aside from the occasional sapz up when it loses power overnight and you have to reset everything it's been fine.

My tuner has been fine but I mostly listen to CDs. You will hear nothing even remotely as good so IMO I would always get the Nak over any other make.

What model was your mate?

I know the old/proto-type ones always had a few RDS issue's but "apparantly" thats all sorted now... :)

Mine is a CD-35z. Cheapest they did at the time. 95% of the time it works no trouble.

I notice Hlafrauds now sell the CD-400.

I bought a nice Alpine unit 2 months ago. I agree most new ones are too in your face but they do a classic range with all the latest features. Have a look at them. Alpine all the way though.

Go on! You know you want to!

All I'll ever buy, should mine stop working, will be Nakamichi.

Well i sent an email to nakamichi's main distributor asking about how many problems they have etc etc...

Hi Brian,

Unfortunately I think you have been searching the internet and reading the right web pages,
i cant really say anymore than that and should not ?

Sod what teh distributor says. If you want sound quality then go for the Nak. If you aren't that arsed then go elsewhere.

Its not the quality that worries me... more then lack of stereo for months on end as its getting "repaired" :?

Swervin_Mervin

Well I wouldn't want you to buy one on my account and then have trouble mate, but I've never ever had enough of a problem with mine to warrant taking it to be repaired.

It occasionally seems to lose it's power and subsequently you have to reset all the settings, but it doesn't do it whilst it's on. Just sometimes you get in teh car and turn it on and it's all gone.

Doesn't bug me enough to warrant repairs. Prolly happens half a dozen times a year.

Think im gonna go try find one in halfords or somewhere n see if i can break it.... lol

You tried asking on the caraudiodirect forums? Some knowledgable guys on there that are more likely to know about the 400.

I must say though that I hear stuff on my Nak that you simply cannot hear on other units. I heard one album that I'd known for years and was sat there in amazement at sounds that I'd never heard were in the tracks before.

If I had the cash I'd have one of those 6-disc in-dash jobs. 8)
