I just added up the amount of consumables i use at work. Currently use around £60,000 worth of plastic tubes, dishes, pipettes, chemicals ect every year.
60 grand worth of stuff i just use and thow away
eg
25mg's of MK571 - £180 (lasts a month or so)
1 X plastic collagen coated culture dish - £160 (use 2 or 3 a week)
HPLC vial - £1 (i use about 200 a week)
Science is very expensive. No wonder there is no money left to pay the scientists.
Its funny, i see some of the most intelligent people on the planet, professors, doctors, brilliant scientists every day. They turn up to work in battered Fiestas, Mondeos and rusty Corrollas.
The managers of medical supply companies turn up for meetings to sell us equipment in AMG mercedes, Porsches and Jags. LOL.
Go figure. :?
