View Full Version : Painting//Spraying/Powder Coating Rims?
Ey up
Bought some new rims, so I am using my ickle 14"er's for trackdays and I want to do them in black. What can I use that will last?
any spray paint from halfords mate.
you will need 3 cans for 4 wheels.
Fine!
Thought normal spray would wear away after a while?
nar - get a can of lacqure aswell. give em a good coat and finish with lacqure and job done.
but if it was me - why stay black ?
dark silver is one of my fav's. Think its a ford colour if u look.
Nah, the rims are silver already, black will stand out on track or maybe I could do them red, blue, green or pink? :P

i powder coated my wheels, they lasted ages, i used gloss black with 2 coats of laquor!!!!
Cool. Norhty, my everyday rims waiting to go on are that colour with a polished lip
Do you out laquer on after they have been sprayed/painted?
Yes. Lacquer is a clear top coat that protects the paint and gives them a nice shine.
laqure is too much effort for track day wheels, mine got wiped over wiht a damp cloth and sprayed.
Would ahve used tiuns if i paid full price, i get spray tins for just voer half of what a tin costs, and plus i had most of a tin lyinfg about in the garage, and its far less effort
Gonna use the wheels for winter now too.
satin black is good. i do our race wheels (atom/caterham etc) in satin black. bit of brake cleaner to get rid of dirt/grease etc, and 5 or so coats. looks v.good! no lacquer tho cos its satin not gloss
im just in the middle of painting my track wheels in hammerite smooth black, loking good so far, all ive done is de-greased em/cleaned em, a light sanding and get rid of the makrs and sprayed em
