Just curious...

Obviously not having the tools to check the belt tension frequency (Hz); i would usually tension a timing belt by the rule of thumb of about half a turn, but i know in haynes manual it mentions about using a spring balance to check the belt deflection?

Anyone ever tried this is know if its any accurate??

Cheers, Bri.

It is stated in the Haynes Manual...I know I tried it when replacing mine a few months ago.

Can't remember exactly off hand, but it is something like a force of 6Kg to equall a deflection of about 15mm between the camshaft pulleys.

To be fair though, their is 2 tensioners, 3 pulleys and the oil pump pulley too, so just testing at this single point IMO is a bit stupid. By all means do it, but check every other point-to point too the 'usual' way. Just to be safe. It only takes a few seconds but it will give you peice of mind!!
