View Full Version : inaccurate fuel gauge

Hi all after 2 weeks of my clio ive noticed that the fuel gauge isnt very accurate. For instance after a long juorney the gauge hardly moved and wen it did it went to just under 1/4 (was just over previosly) of a tank and the petrol light was on. Eventually after the car was switched off and on the gauge was at the bottom...

anybody else expericance funny readings? How far can u travel with the light on?

Yeah my guage is gay.

For one the top half of the gauage reads the top 2/3 of petrol, once you get to halfway you actualyl have 1/2 of a tank left.

When i'm sat doing motorway speeds my fuel guage goes up and when i come off and sklow down it goes back down.

Can do about 10-20 miles safley on the reserve

I have found my gauge once it gets to 1/4 is up and down all the time, if you break hard the petrol light can come on sometimes.
I found my 1.2 gauge really reliable though :?

The Williams fuel gauge over-reads when the needle is below half-way point. Nothing really wrong with it, just fill up when it's below quarter tank. Besides, IMHO, the car's quicker and handles better when the needle is between three-quarters and full.

I didn't do anything, it fixed itself, I think I have a magical car or something

I was told it wa the fuel sender unit, this is attached to the fuel pump I'm told and cannot be separated, so a new or used pump would solve the problem, it's not gospel though, just what I've been led to believe.

if i fill my car up the needle wil stay reading full tank 4 ages then it will read normal after a bit but after it gets past half empty the needle falls like a bitch!

after 1/2 way the tank gets smaller

1/4 will soon disapear as the size of the tank area is really small.

Ditto, to do wiht the shape of the tank,a nd teh boffins could make a car run etc, but couldn't compensate for it on the guage
