pump is fine to change if you have the hands of a small child! the only thing that makes it hard to change is the lack of room but they ain thtat hard!

What noise does it make?

Need to do mine when renault give me the car back.

It makes a rough rattling noise when its on its way out. Won't need the rad out as far as I know. You can get your existing one stripped and rebuilt for £100. Mine has been rattling for over a year now, but I only do about ten miles a month in the car, so I haven't replaced mine yet. FIrst thing on my 'Willy' to do list.

Mine sounds like grinding metal and if you turn teh wheel quickly when cold it loses PAS for a split second. Almost like it needs to catch up.

I'm going for a used one and will investigate re-furbing the one that comes off.

as far as i was always told was that the PAS pumps on the valvers and willys were always noisy!! mine makes a racket on full lock. could need bleeding? or topping up with some PAS fluid? helped mine when i topped up and bled it!

Justin..

when i go slow, the pump makes a grinding noise. also fluid leaks out of the pas reserve tank lid

FATBOY
03-10-2005, 19:55
fluid is meant to leak out of lid! there is a small pin prick breather hole in the lid.

yup same here mate and same for everyone! i wouldnt bother with cleaning it! its just a bbreather hole that lets it bleed itself iirc!

Mine leaks out of the lid as well, gets all over the engine.

I've read somewhere, that if you take some of the fluid out, so that it is closer to the min level, it's not as bad.

I might try rigging up a narrow bore breather pipe, so that it vents underneath the car. Do you think this would cause any problems?

Justin..

whats the min level??? when i open the lid i can see 2 white plastic semi circles in the middle at the bottom.

IIRC it's at the bottom of the 'splits' inside the container, max is at the top of these.

The level guage is the raised circle in the bottom of teh filler. Bottom of the circle is min, top is max.

If it screatches rather than grinds its the belt needs changing or tightening/loosening, mine screetched, till I changed the belt.

The hardest bit would probably be getting the pump & associated pipes out without spilling fluid everywhere. Its probably easier to take the rad out if you want to change the coolant as it makes access a lot easier. Also remove the bonnet and OS headlight.

See ya

Might be worth changing the PAS fluid and giving it a good bleeding.

Since replacing my water pump and fitting the PAS pully back on it started to rub and make a horrid noise. In the end I had to use some small washers to space the pump pully out to stop it catching.

All seems fine now.

GSF are listing Clio pumps @ £85 but they dont mention the 16v, best to give them a ring.

GSF's price list is a joke, half the stuff they do is't listed, i even managed to find an alternator listed that they don't, nor ever have done, and if you want correct prices....don't even go there

Think I really need to do mine! Went and met a few guys off the evo forum last night at Ladybower. When we went back outside I started mine up to warm it through and all you could hear was this:

"waaaaa........waaaaa.......waaaaaa" as it was grinding every so many revs. :P

Everyone was asking what the **** the noise was.
