ok done a head gasket today on an escort xr3i, i no its not a clio but its my m8s, done it in 5hours, which i thought was pretty good as i havent done one in over a year, anyway, it strts and runs but before it start it really messes around, starter motor clicks loads, so at this point i jump started it from mine, sometimes it was fine but other times it jus clicks, has the starter gone?

also it doesnt tick over? but can keep it alive by opening throttle? wen u let go it dies?

1 more thing its had a new patened exhaust gasket but its blowing pretty bad? will the blowing prevent it from staying alive?

have u checked all the earths are on and clean? could be a poor earth or the starter solenoid is on its way out, have u tryed hitting it when its not turning over to see if it does?

which engine is it btw MFI or EFI? ages since i last worked on one! my old xr31 i had to change the valves/headgaskets etc due to cambelt failure that was a MFI engine, iirc they have a few vac pipes which have to be connected to make it idle as said ages since i worked on one so cant remember the layout etc

and no it should still idle even if the exhaust is blowing
