i don't know why u all think valvers r so unreliable, u wana try owning an older car like 5gtt or my car before the valver a mk1 uno turbo although i reckon the uno is abit more reliable than the 5, trust me u will b fixing any of these older hatches alot more than the valver, i would of owned my valver a year at the end of this month and in that year the only things i had to do were fit a new steering coloumn and a new rear brake reg. i have driven this car everyday since owning it and covered 11000 miles of harsh driving, starts everyday on the dot and gets me to work and back which is alot more than my uno could ever provide ( would maybe get me to work but would want to stay there the night aswell  ). i have got a few things wrong with my valver like rev counter not working or oil temp not working but these were like it when i brought it and i just have'nt been arsed to sort them. cam belt is due in nov and clutch has started to slip( ive got no docs of this every being changed ) so ive done the sensible thing and brought a 2.0l...

Never found the valver unreliable either..
Had mine over 5 years with 120K the clock, only ever done basic maintenance + problem with imobiliser. Once when water got into the sensor via a shitty greened-up sunroof seal, and once when decoder packed up.

General reliability is good, my brother also has 50K valver and is just the same. Guess you guys hammer the F*** out of yours to much perhaps!

Nah, they are reliable enought really. Stupid things have broken on mine in the past 2 years, like clutch cables/accellerator cable and so on. Oh yeah and the gearbox
