View Full Version : knocking sound exactly like driveshaft - but it isn't!
Ever since I've had my valver there has been a knocking/clunking sound which comes from the front-left side of the car. The seller told me about it at the time and said that he had checked the struts. The noise only happens when I turn right and decelerate. It doesn't matter what speed I'm going but it usually happens more when going slowly e.g. on a roundabout.
So far I've:
Replaced the left hand driveshaft (which turned out to be ok anyway)
Replaced the broken rear engine mount
checked all suspension/steering joints, bushes, and bolts.
all to know avail. Any suggestions?
ball joint on the wishbone ??

Definately ball joint. Has this on my one, replaced and now quite as a mouse.
i would say it was the donut mount on the front left shock, my valver used to do the same, cheap fix, a good way to check is to jack the car up and take off the wheel and see if the strut moves, if there is play, then thats it.
Cheers all. The wishbone ball joint - is that what the Haynes manual calls the 'suspension arm ball joint'? I've checked the strut and that seems fine.

I thought mine had gone too, but when I checked it seemed fine...didn't have any play at all. Kept on wobbling it around and in the end I found some movement, just moving it a certain way. They're only a tenner or so, so you may as well give it go.
for a tenner change it anyway. :D
Try changing the shocker top bush and bearing - this is another common knocking fault than can occur
