despite feeling as rough as with the flu last week had the car booked for a full service / inspection and ps belt change. Went to Landspeed in Ipswich [very impressed! lovely attitude and mechanic a 172 owner] anyhow despite still trying to find out where we can send my steering rack to get refurbed - the good news is nothing really scary wrong and discovered she is on coilovers on front but bad news is... back trailing arm bushes wearing out- as they have not got the tool for taking these off [ a bastard job apparently?] they suggest I get a sub frame from a breakers and replace the lot [?] this would unfortunately mean putting her back to standard height [?] Don't know if this is sensible or possible without a great deal of hassle - any ideas? or should I just look for a garage with the right tool to get the bushes off?

Get it standard IMO.

LOL

Its a torsion bar at the back, not a subframe, you want the rear beam set-up, and it won't be back to std height, you shold set the height to the correct height when fitting it to the car, and you can always lower it to the required height, just take a measurement from say the top of the disc to the arch jacked up, and replicate that height on the new bar.

Do they actually know anything about mk1 clios?

If ity was me i cwould take it to a garage that either has the tool, or is willing to go to a specialist automotive hirers and hire the tool, or even buy it.

Take it to a proper renault specialist, one that knows the difference between a subframe and a torsion bar

the tool! lol a socket and a bolt..

if your rear axle is ****ed all you will need is a replacement from infinicar or a breakers.. make sure you get a williams one a valver one is different in the damping settings in the torsion.

there are 4 bolts on the rear axle.. and 2 on the rear brake pipes 2 on the shockers.

top tip is to gas plus the joints every night for a week prior o change.
gasplus is a penetrating oil.. better than wd40.
quick job really to change.

after a mishap i once was required to change rear axle.. i naturally placed a williams axle on.

Lowering is a straight forward job providing the bar hasnt seized.. if Winston can do it.... lol

as for the steering rack.. GSF sell them £130 ish... I got a valver one with valver trackrod ends. the turn ratios are the same.. i compared it to a rack which i had off a williams... all coding serial numbers were the same.. the gsf racks are refurbed renault ones.. as the renault stamp can be seen .

thanks guys for the advice- will contact infinicar and see what options are available - still confused about rack as tried everywhere to pick up refurb no doing - was told valver has different ends [it was a post on here] and more turn [?] so couldn't be used?I believe BB Tuning can take off rack and send away to get refurbed then put back on but although phoned them last week unfortunatly no one has come back to me on this and anyway I need the car for work so can't really lose her for a week while this is done - mind you I guess it may be worth it if they could do the torsion bar at the same time - kill 2 birds with one stone- will investigate.
cheers

Yes the ends are different...but just get the relevant track rod ends and then get tracking done.

bb will cost more than buying a rack new lol.
