when driving at certain speeds ... around 50 - 70... seems to have appeared since taking a days rapage at the SE meet. The noise gets louder when turning left and goes quiet when turing right ...:?

checked and changed tyre pressures and that doesnt help

was thinking it might be something to do with the tracking (hopefully)

also seems like it's coming form the left side, i think.

ideas anyone ???

cheers, TriO` :)

What's it sound like?

like a loud humming noise that varies with my speed, if that helps :(

That's how my noise started. But mine's at low speeds. Mine's a ****ed PAS pump I think.

Yours could be the diff though.

Check your wheel bearings.

Aye, no harm in checking for any play on the CV joints as well.

Wheel bearing will more likely be noisy at low speeds, not high. However, it's the cheapest thing that could break so check that first and pray it's ont the other two.

Sounds like the diff to me though, having heard one before that was on it's way.

cool, lets hope it's the wheel bearing then. (gonna ignore any comments about the diff as it sounds ugly and expensive :P)

How can I check to make sure. just jack it up and check for play in the wheel ??

jack it up and spin the wheel and listen for any noises, also will the wheel rocks slighty from side to side and up and down

wheel bearing

When you corner in one particular direction it should get louder as that side loads up with all the weight.

When you corner in the other direction it should get quieter, as the weight shifts away from that wheel.

normally about 40quid labour, plus the part (20-36quid) depending on front/rear.

Wheel bearing will get louder the faster you go :)

For example my rear wheel bearing didn't make a sound under 30mph... as soon as you go over 30mph it got worse.

Don't worry if you're unsure whether its a wheel bearing it will gradually get worse and worse (louder).

cheers summeh, that's good news then :D... can i still drive it for a bit or shouldn't i just incase my wheel falls off lol ??? but seriously, will it damage anything else by running on a buggered bearing?

Odd, cos my front bearing couldn't be heard until you were doing about 15mph and then it made a noise like an X-wing doing a fly by! :P

My mate's diff however sounded very much like what has been described.
