Folks,

I'm thinking of re-encoding all my mp3s down to a lesser bitrate to save space as I’ve got less than 1gb left on my 120gb drive right now.

Having had a play, I think 128kbps would be ok but what about 96kbps – do you think I’ll loose too much?

I only play these through headphones and car speakers and, to tell the truth, my hearing has degraded significantly over the past couple of years IMO (i listen to headphones all day at work)....what do you reckon?

Take a look in "Audio Compresion" section in this forum:

IMHO, there's too much digital artifact on anything below 128kbit for MP3 files. I think either WMA, Ogg Vorbis or MP3pro are better formats for 96kbit encoding than MP3 (For MP3pro files, your a player has to support MP3pro to get good quality playback).
