The gear box crunches when I put reverse on. it doesn't do it all the time mind. It never happens when cold, but if I run for a few miles, it crunches when I put the car into reverse . The longuer I drive, the heavier the noise. Any ideas?

just wear on the box....i never go from forward gears straight into reverse...always release the clutch - helps prolong the box a bit more.

Also always put it into first a couple of times before engaging reverse, it shouldn't crunch then...

i had the same problem and it turned out to be my clutch dragging...

LOL

as per Northys answer. yo need to:
1) come to a holt
2) depress clutch, place car in first gear foot still on clutch.
3) move gear stick to reverse unpress clutch
4) no crunch..

theory.. the crunch sound occures because the flywheel is still spinning forward. Placing box in 1st -first helps it stop...
