I think mine's close to it. :(

Changed the fluid on Saturday and spent about 1 1/2 hrs bleeding the fecker.

Set off this morning and it's noisier than ever. It's not squealing or wheezing though. It sounds like metal grinding away and it does it even when idling and not moving the wheel.

Has anyone changed one before? Is it a twat to do? Am I even on the right lines?

aye its a rite twat!
it takes 30 -60 secs to bleed pas... check pipe work, leaking fluid.. then bearings on the pas pulley..

I've bled it and put new fluid in. Took ages to bleed as it kept spitting air bubbles out.

How do I check teh bearings? Is it easy to do?

jack car up remove o/s/f wheel... look through the arch, get a mate to turn the wheels at a variety of speeds and degreee of lock.. listen for undue noise at the pulley, and / excessive movement in the belt...
usually a split belt + some loose bolts make strange sounds.
try spray belt life extender on or short term WD 40 on the belt.
