right, garage that did my wheel bearing said head off roughly 7hrs to fit new cams. is this right? been told by others just rocker cover off and cam cover off? im confused. it actually has put me off getting it done due to the cost of labour involved. could somebody on here who has had it done please tell me either way.

Well think about the cost of a new cambelt, and then add say an hours labour.

Cambelt off, rover cover off, pully wheels off, calmps and oil seals off, cams out, new ones in, refit pullies, and refit a new cambelt.

Will need parts wise, rocker cover gasket, cams ( vernier pully wheels if uprated ones), cambelt

Only trouble is how much people quote for a cambelt change in terms of £s or hours. It may only be an hour more to fit cams but some people charge 450 for a cambelt change (is renault 600?) and others like BB who do them quickest way possible 137.

I'm gonna get mine done soon and tempted to try myself but guess need experience somewhere to dial them in on a RR which is why I am questioning whether its worth doing half myself and someone else other half or let them do all.

Just like clutch. I was quoted 11 hours, Hillpower gave a nice price too which did involve engine out and clean/inspection of a lot of thing but my local garage did it subframe out and 25 quid an hour cash in hand. 150 quid including new clutch cable which they thought was harder than doing clutch.

All depends where you take stuff and labour costs. Good mechanics are worth their weight in beer tokens.

wouldn't trust anyone but a specialist with my williams tbh, after some of this shit i've been through... just do the cams yourself mate, don't think its that hard, haynes will tell you how :)

tbh wouldnt trust the supposed specialists with my car either.

only 2 ppl work on my car.me and a friend of mine..barring wayne (chip wizards)

seems to work out better and cheaper lol

putting cams in and a cambelt change is easy enough...the timings a diff story. diff ppl have diff ways to do it, and some have better results than others dependant on the cams used and how they adjusted to run. most seem to be set quite vicious.....

like Jon i'm proper fussy where i take mine after some expensive and bad experiences. AWT and GDI would be the only place i'd take my car if they were local, so I'll take it to them whenever i need something complex doing (tuning basically!) and for all other things I use my garage in Warrington, who CANNOT be beaten on price, they are ****ing awesome (i get mates rates ;) ). Other than that I'd only trust 2 live and the Northmeister to mess with my car... even though they are both ghey as hell...

seriously though, yeah, he's helped me out a few times with mechanical type stuff and knows more than he lets on... just because he comes accross a bit simple dont let that fool you! ;)
