just hand a complete bottom end rebuild, all thats left is to flush it through with some crappy oil, then change it again to some good stuff...
so... what oil, and what grade do you suggest...
Im thinking Mobil 1...

10/40 Elf or silkolene 8)
ummm don't go for mobil 1.... way to thin really. I used it and was smoking like a bastard.
just put 5w40 fuchs fully synth in mine... same as silkolene pro s.
i'd go for either of these. 60quid for 8litres though ;)

I use Motul 300v.
Mat.
15w/40 p/s for me. i used some thinner oil once and the oil pressure when hot was just too low. when booting it the oil wouldnt go hirer than 3.5. i know using 15/40 its 4 bar ish but i just wanted to use what the spec sheet recommends
10/40 shell helix or valvoline maxlife ( even for low millage cars)
I use Millers its superb stuff for me.

Millers for me as well. Its the only oil I have used in every car I have owned for about 5-6 years now.

you mean the spec sheet thats about 10 years old, when very little was known about synthetic oil ?
Silkolene Pro S 5W-40
ester based fully synthetic of the highest quality, my oil temps are down since going to it
5w40 fully synth for me....usually the generic brand they have in my local car shop.
too thin renault not recommened also i used mobel 1 in my last clio16v and it sounded like there were blots flying around the engine and very nosiy. changed to 10/40 and cured everything
well, when your up to temp, a 10W-40 and a 5W-40 are exactly the same thickness
the 5W simply protects better from cold starts as it flows around the engine quicker
I have been using 5w 40 Mobil 1....despite the mileage of the car...good pressure, doesn't get overly hot, cheap as chips here!
i was using the 0/40 mobel 1 thant 5/40 not been out long? :?:
wot about this
Shell Helix Ultra 5/40
Carlube TripleR 5w/40 - fully synthetic.
My own rule of thumb is change oil often. And make sure there's a long list of oil specs conformance on the tin.

Lol @ Brun.
You sound like your using the Oilmans quotes.
wot about this
Shell Helix Ultra 5/40
That's what I'm swapping to next oil change, but gonna try the 10-40. I currently use Mobil 1 15-50 and even that is far too thin, very tappety on cold starts and burns off far too quickly... :!:
the shell oils have a cleaning agent in them not like the valvolean oils

i knew a fair bit about oil before he came along, he does know what he is talking about though

more than likely its because the oil is too thick your getting poor cold start, the oil being a 15W-50 will take longer to flow around than say a 10W-40, try that next see how you go, if no change then maybe something is worn
DONT put Magnatec in your car, that will make it noisy as ****
