View Full Version : Sunny day so I got #180 out

PhilW

Unfortunately it still needs the engine and gearbox, engine loom, bumpers and bits and pieces of trim to go back on, bugger....
http://williamsclio.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=8381&stc=1

Did get some jobs done though as I'm aiming to get the engine and gearbox in over the bank holiday weekend, just need to work out how to the both back from my parents garage to my house.

Also made myself useful by helping my dad rustproof his MX and change it over to waterless coolant.

I'll ask Northy to take a look Graham, the images are embedded into the post as opposed to a web link so they should be visible, 🤞

Thanks Ayli, I would like it to be May Day, its achievable but it also depends on family and work distractions. Its so close now, it actually looks like its going to happen.
I have had a few dark moments along the line thinking that it wouldnt 😉

Cheers Northy, the thread will have to wait till #180's finished now. I just need to get it on the road for the summer, which appears to have started without me!
TBH I will have forgotten what I have done to the car, I think that I'm trying to forget 💥

:-k....see what I'm dealing with Phil, hints being dropped left, right and centre at the minute!

Looks great Phil, think I would have left the alloys till last :tongue3:

I hope your air filter looks as clean and shiny!

Please could you leave the bubble wrap on for it's first summer?

Anglesey drive out on 6th May?

Thanks Gaz.
It may be that the bubble wrap wont come off as its been on for so long, but will be great for guarding against car park dings and the look may catch on.....you saw it here first!

If the car is ready for the 6th, it will be there, is a new engine now so wont be getting run in around the track!

Consider the air filter remark well and truly ignored :tongue3:

If you've still got some money burning a hole in your pocket...

Not that they're as well printed as the originals but what can you do:sad:

Cheers Ian,
love the pasted page, thats a really polite and subtle way of saying "But that cam cover sticker looks a bit shit" 😉 and I would agree with you. I was considering buying a transfer but I may go the whole shot and buy one of these.

There is a danger with me on projects that I do all the important (hidden) stuff and then skimp on the small details that everyone will see 🙄.

Finished today by fitting the 4th engine mount, torquing all the mounts up and sorting out all the bits and pieces that need to go back on the car, thankfully the list is getting smaller now.
Image of the car with the boxes of parts ready to go on

The car is sitting at a better angle now its got the weight of the engine and gearbox in.

Sincerely hope we'll be able to read ALL the numbers on your gear knob.

My major concern is that you actually drive it. Not sure I could. It is simply stunning. Jaw bone fully de-articulated.

LOL, cheers Ayli.
Dont worry #180 will definitely get driven when its completed, I definitely have not done all this work to have it sat in the garage all the time. Although it certainly wont be seeing any winter weather, thats 100%.
On decent days however it will get to know Wales and the Lake District, plenty of great roads around there 👍

Cheers Ian, funnily enough the car does not look like the image you mention any more. After eating tonight I went out to the garage and put an hour and a bit in. Jacking the car up, front wheels off and brakes. Will take the front hubs off tomorrow night so that I can get the refurbished drive shafts back in.
I'll then put all of the front end back together and get on with the engine bay wiring loom later in the week.
I need to get this finished soon, summer is here.....

PhilW

Feel the need to get this finished asap now, so trying to put in some time into the car in the evening.
Tonight I fitted the refurbished drive shafts

Hows it coming on Phil ?

PhilW
11-05-2017, 20:15
Not bad thanks. Saying that the car is going back into the bodyshop (this Monday) to have some rectifications to the paintwork before I put all the exterior trim back on. Once it comes back I need to ;

Fit front and rear bumpers
door mirrors
hatch spoiler
front wings
Install the radiator & refill with waterless coolant
Fill up with PS fluid
Fit the bulkhead heat shield
Fit the OE exhaust (On loan from Crossers whilst I have a stainless steel copy made)
Reconnect the fuel lines
Then......

I need to remove the spark plugs, remove fuel pump fuse and turn the car over on the starter to prime the oil pump.
Following that see if it will start. If all is well;

Fit williams tear 1/4 stickers
Rear hatch sticker
Door jamb stickers
few bits and pieces of trim

Then if all is well, drive it.......Sorry you asked 😉.
All in all very close now to completion, I just hope that I love it when I get to drive it again

thanks for your interest, I'll keep you posted, Phil

Brilliant mate, its coming on now getting closer to driving it.

You will love it for sure, I have never owned another car that puts a smile on my face more than driving the Williams.

I took a days insurance on mine a few weeks ago to give it a run out, I was suppose to drop it back at the garage around 8:30pm to lock it up ... 11:30pm by time i got it there ...just couldn't give it up !!! hahaha

Thats great feedback, thanks for that.
I'm really looking forward to getting it finished and driving it.
Slight distraction today, putting a new rear lambda sensor on the Cup, ended up taking the from Cat and downpipe off so we could apply heat and violence on the old sensor and it was stuck solid.

The depths of the winter was the time for that to happen and I'm pleased to say that it didnt.

I tried to load up the image below earlier, this is my Dad and me working on the 172 Cup earlir on today.
I'll now add removing and replacing the downpipe on this car as one of the most fiddly and difficult that I have done on a car in a long while.

I can well imagine Northy.
Luckily I changed these bushes when I had the pedal box out, but just threading the clutuch cable back in for the firat time was tricky, so I can imagine that job was a nightmare!
